There's only one way to develop critical thinking: having eaten and gotten enough sleep FIRST. Basic human needs are still the most fundamental thing ever.

I think the need for coherence is a basic human need. It goes under "mental" needs. I created a map for this.

What you call needs, how to meet them, and how to understand them in a larger systematic perspective, is what terms like "meaning", "holism", etc., is about. Thinking about these things can help you a long way in getting your needs met. Because you have a need for thinking about things, and it's part in knowing how to navigate and get those needs met.
