The girl who you spoke to here - was she with him prior to him being incarcerated or showing violent tendencies? 

I know many women who get into relationships with well meaning and seemingly genuine people who turn and do reprehensible things. Behaviour that does not align with character. People change and we never truly know how we will react in a given set of circumstances. She might not fall into that category though 🙃 once girls are attached they are illogically loyal

I don't think it's movies, it's much deeper then that. 

Violence is the core of our species, it used to be the main job of men. You fight and kill animals to feed the tribe. You fight and kill invaders to protect the tribes. It's the original competency skill. 

Of course our society has moved past this but humans experience reality through our limbic systems way before our prefrontal cortex. Why wouldn't a dangerous man give a woman more tingles than a soyboy type of dude?

The lesson is not to do more crime but to workout and be an overall competent man with an edge. I noticed with my last girlfriend we would fuck most often on the days after I worked out, she wouldn't know when I had been to the gym but the body knows what it wants.

On a more serious note, there could be several dynamics at play, one or more at a time.

For example:

• Confusion of safety and danger.
• Attraction to power.
• Rescue fantasy (believing that love can fix a criminal).
• TV shows brainwashing.
• Low self-esteem (believing that's the best she can get).
• Emotional attachment.
• BDSM fantasies.

Women are more likely to be drawn to criminals because they're more susceptible to danger overall. It's mostly a cope.
