i am about to enter IT jobs. will AI wipe out programming jobs . are we fucked

If it does, no job is safe, so don't worry about that too much.

TBD. I think we're good for another 2-3 years. Hopefully. Time to sharpen the sword. 

What if this is just fascination + identity + seriousness being inflated into universal importance?

How much do you use AI? If you are on the cutting edge then probably you can get a higher salary than those too lazy to learn AI skills. If you are part of the lazy ones not keeping up with AI upskilling then good luck 🫡

No.  There still has to be someone to make sense of AI.  It will wipe out a lot of stuff that computers can do much faster than we do -- which is just another aspect of the computer revolution.
