Your experience with insight

15 posts in this topic

An insight is “true,” or it is not really an insight.

An insight is not simply an opinion or a guess.

An insight is an authentic experience.

An insight is beyond any belief—it is instead something personally encountered and understood.

An insight is self-validating, since the truth or validity of the realization lies inherent in the thing realized.

An insight is authentic, and a person who has one will speak with authority since no guesswork is involved.

With insight, a clear and personal grasping of the subject matter is the authority

Do we agree with the above?

Do you have any body, emotion, or feeling sensations along with an insight that indicate the experience for you? I do. Tell me what you experience adjacent to your insights.

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.

To me, an insight is not different in essence than any regular thought, except that it is derived through direct personal contemplation (like you said), and usually comes in the form of a breakthrough that carries more emotional weight and has more impact on the psyche and/or even directly on behaviour. An insight is a fresh new perspective that feels good, although it doesn't inherently carry more truth than a regular thought. A regular thought can be more truthful than an insight, but the lack of novelty makes regular thoughts (which are basically old insights) feel pale in comparison. An insight often comes with an "aha" moment.

But one important thing I'd like to mention is that clinging to certain insights can turn them into dogmas. So, through induction we can infer that it's not just the content of the insight itself that matters, but how we relate to it. Do we call it absolute truth? Do we call it a delusion? Or something in between? The answer makes all the difference.

I think, regardless of how insightful some thought may feel in the moment, the most important part is always about how we relate to it.

I can see that deeper insights into the importance, effect, and connection of consciousness increases the capacity to feel more spacious and comfortable, connected, and tangibly alive, and these insights can lead to developing the capacity to nurture in cool ways.

When I have an insight, it's spacious. That's how it feels. Each person is going to have a different body so the way the energy from insight, I can imagine, will function differently.

Interesting - by "how we relate to it" what do you mean?

I feel an insight as a great big "thunk" inside me. Like when you slot a piece of a jigsaw puzzle in and you feel the crisp click as it all lines up. Then I feel a large expansive feeling and deep sense of satisfaction.

Sometimes even a thrill that runs through my body from my chest to my head.

  • How we categorize it on a spectrum from absolute truth to mere speculation.
  • How we prioritize it: Among other thoughts, which one takes precedence in sense making? Does it become the lens through which we interpret everything else, or just one data point among many?
  • How much truth and credibility we give it: How much interrogation do we still owe it? Can we trust this insight more broadly in practical life? Or have we granted it trust prematurely because it felt right?
  • How much depth unfolds from it through further contemplation.
  • How much control we allow it over our lives.
  • How fluid or rigid our minds need to be with it.

Nikki Sixx is pretty good with insight.  He's intuitive.

Laughter, most often.  Followed by a heightened sensitivity to touch, and pressure.  I find myself walking slowly, doing everything slowly, deliberately because the the sensory feedback is so clear and pleasant and well defined.

Rarely, I'll have a squeezing sensation in my head.  My ears will get hot.  My heart beating throbs in my head.  This usually happens when I'm about to experience an insight, but, my mind hasn't caught-up to what my heart has already understood.  In these cases, I need to put in a lot of effort or take a risk to put the pieces together.

That sounds pretty nice. It's cool to hear how insights happen in your body and mind. I can see why you're interested in how it happens for other people too.

@Jordan of the Shire Yes I experience a very distinct feeling of exhilaration when I have a genuine insight. I have a familiar set of body experiences that accompany it. I like hearing how others have somatic experiences :D

When I have an insight, I stand up and take a couple steps.

I am the impossible made reality.

Have you had any insights recently? Where are you at now / this week?
I've had some insights recently, and it felt like dipping into a hotspring, rejuvenating. Some heart releases and some awareness openings. Sensations of warmth and coolness. With the awareness releases, it's like a wave of light cool wind, and an open expansive sense. When it happens its as if, any constriction around the head is let go of.

Came across an idea the other day that "tired is an emotion", not just a state. The very thought of doing something you don't want to zaps your energy. But insights give you a surge of it. Interesting just how subtle, yet powerful thoughts are.

What if this is just fascination + identity + seriousness being inflated into universal importance?

Insights seem to come out of the blue like a meteor sighting. It has a quality to it that you know is special. An alignment of sorts where everything comes together.

100%

That some little neurological energetic thing can happen that we call a "thought" can trigger energetic systems in such a huge way. Thoughts are like levers for energy in the body - some may have a longer handle and require less effort. Some have a chode handle that we need to grind at to make the energy arise 😁

Yes. A big one.

If I am judging someone, I cannot simultaneously be genuinely feeling the truth of my emotions. As soon as I judge someone - I'm blocking or avoiding something in my internal experience.

This insight came after I was harshly judging my sister for sabotaging my work. I was fuelled with so much anger and justice. Narratives spinning for revenge. I realised that anger and indignation from judging her wasn't what I was really feeling; hurt, sadness and some shame that maybe I didn't give her the tools she needed to succeed.

Judging her blocked all the truth of my experience.

I was avoiding feeling sadness.

It all passed like nothing at the insight. And well.... Basically I had that prickly sensation of adrenaline, energy and jubilation 😁 I couldn't stop crapping on about it to my close friends 🤣
