Your experience with insight

5 posts in this topic

An insight is “true,” or it is not really an insight.

An insight is not simply an opinion or a guess.

An insight is an authentic experience.

An insight is beyond any belief—it is instead something personally encountered and understood.

An insight is self-validating, since the truth or validity of the realization lies inherent in the thing realized.

An insight is authentic, and a person who has one will speak with authority since no guesswork is involved.

With insight, a clear and personal grasping of the subject matter is the authority

Do we agree with the above?

Do you have any body, emotion, or feeling sensations along with an insight that indicate the experience for you? I do. Tell me what you experience adjacent to your insights.

To me, an insight is not different in essence than any regular thought, except that it is derived through direct personal contemplation (like you said), and usually comes in the form of a breakthrough that carries more emotional weight and has more impact on the psyche and/or even directly on behaviour. An insight is a fresh new perspective that feels good, although it doesn't inherently carry more truth than a regular thought. A regular thought can be more truthful than an insight, but the lack of novelty makes regular thoughts (which are basically old insights) feel pale in comparison. An insight often comes with an "aha" moment.

But one important thing I'd like to mention is that clinging to certain insights can turn them into dogmas. So, through induction we can infer that it's not just the content of the insight itself that matters, but how we relate to it. Do we call it absolute truth? Do we call it a delusion? Or something in between? The answer makes all the difference.

I think, regardless of how insightful some thought may feel in the moment, the most important part is always about how we relate to it.

I can see that deeper insights into the importance, effect, and connection of consciousness increases the capacity to feel more spacious and comfortable, connected, and tangibly alive, and these insights can lead to developing the capacity to nurture in cool ways.

When I have an insight, it's spacious. That's how it feels. Each person is going to have a different body so the way the energy from insight, I can imagine, will function differently.

Interesting - by "how we relate to it" what do you mean?

I feel an insight as a great big "thunk" inside me. Like when you slot a piece of a jigsaw puzzle in and you feel the crisp click as it all lines up. Then I feel a large expansive feeling and deep sense of satisfaction.

Sometimes even a thrill that runs through my body from my chest to my head.
