Part of the problem is that illegitimate migrants think that they stand a chance. It's a soft system. Try that shit anywhere else you might not even get the chance to just walk back home, like 25k of those Morocco ended up doing when there was no accommodation miraculously waiting for them. 

There's a tension between human rights and border control that needs to be negotiated. I err towards control of the border as I don't think the alternative is politically viable. You can't have a state who's borders people feel are insecure. It's the crux of liberalism, how loosening of restrictions tends to lead to instability and fragmentation. Then you get hordes of people risking their lives rushing a border for no realistic gain. 57 have already died during this picnic. Shouldn't have happened in the first place.

It is interesting to note how the vibe has changed since the 2010s on migration. It's seen much more as a nuisance now politically.

The irony is that the same mindset many people accuse Israel of holding towards strangers is the one they themselves hold towards Israelis when they generalize like that. At the level of mindset and psychology they are operating from the same place.
