@EdgeGod900 I am aware it's a bit much, but when my brain is on a roll. I won't talk about science forever. But there are still important science points to be made.

Patience please. I am not just ranting. Important points are being made.

This forum not being like Reddit IS a feature. Everything Reddit does perverts what a forum is. Turns it into a chuddy echo chamber. Lame shit.

Uh oh, here come the AI bros. "Why AI is the new frontier of consciousness".

200+ upvotes. 20 awards. Top comment is a 1-2 sentence Marvel quip with 100+ upvotes.

Circle jerk gallore. 🙂🔫

I hate the fact that there's such a thing as awards as well, most of them you actually purchase. These people are purchasing awards with real money just to plaster it on someone's else's post, get a load of that

This post is not about reddit users, but reddits UI/UX. Which is, in my opinion, better in every way. But I know that the resources of Actualized.org are a billions X less than reddit. So I'm not mad if nothing changes.

It's worse in every way. It's design that engenders bias. If you value discussion then Reddit is what not to do.

Redditors are like that because of how the site is designed.

Lol ad hominem.

It's pretty obvious that Reddit is an echochamber machine. If you let users curate what's seen then that will naturally result in a system of conformity. You can't have healthy discussion in a system where views that sufficiently differ from the center of mass are actively censored (a center of mass which itself tends to be rather extreme and binary).

https://blogs.ubc.ca/alexchow/2017/03/18/echo-chambers-and-filter-bubbles-the-hidden-pitfalls-of-reddit/

...Many users of Reddit may consider Reddit as a more reliable news sources than Facebook as Reddit has a lax content policy and censorship is up to individual community moderators. On the surface, Reddit appears to be void of filter bubbles as few algorithms control what users see, with the community being responsible for what users see. However, I argue that in leaving this filtering to the community, Reddit does still create a filter bubble, but one that is determined by the popular or majority view, rather than computer algorithms. In doing so, a dominant view arises in Reddit, while fringe or unpopular opinions are silenced. In letting a user customise what they view, Reddit also creates its own echo chamber, where users knowingly surround themselves with similar views. In this aspect, it is an even more concerning phenomenon as people willingly choose to filter out dissent and debate.

...

Since a post or news article’s visibility is determined by the collective userbase, it is the majority that determines what each user sees on the front page of Reddit. As a result, the dominant perspective becomes the common view that Reddit offers to users, while minority and marginalised opinions receive less visibility. For those reasons, it becomes clear that while the site itself may not directly create a filter bubble through a personalisation algorithm, content is still filtered out and selectively curated by the collective user base through a voting algorithm. An overreliance on this view for one’s news content, sometimes referred to as the Reddit “hivemind”, is dangerous because it reflects what Reddit users think, rather than a balanced view of the world.

...

...In a period of incredible political division, filtering out voices and arguments, whether legitimate or not, simply makes it easier to demonise and dehumanise the other party. In ignoring different opinions, we create our own filter bubbles and echo chambers.

Less is more when it comes to how to design a forum. Clean and plain with quality moderation is all you really need.

Reddit is not really a forum. Reddit is some internet chimera.

The quality of Reddit all depends on the subReddit topic. Some topics are great and some are cancer.

Forums are unfortunately too old-school for the hip Gen Z crowd. But old school works. It just works.

No need to reinvent the forum. It is a perfect format for what it do.
