Good point acutually. That is a mistake on my part.

I generalized my experience from my stay in the west, and from travelling the Netherlands. For example, everywhere I went by bike, even in the countryside, there was a nice, even bike road. I could get everywhere by train. It's certainly nicer than what I have seen in the east. (Not even Poland, places like, for example Greece also apply).

So of course it varies region by region, but I think it's not outrageous to say that on average, it is the case that the west is nicer than the east.

It’s probably the case that rural Western Europe is in better condition than rural Poland. Very possible.

I haven’t been to rural Western Europe much. In terms of rural Poland - I do have experience (eg. my greater family lives in a small city in Warmia-Mazury and I’ve been going there always since I was a child) and it’s not terrible, but also I’d never ever want to live there.

Like yeah, you do meet hobos (menele) and chavs (dresy) of course, but maybe that’s the charm hehehe.

Haha, I agree with the charm. I take pride in the fact that I've lived here, where there are struggles. I guess it grows on you.

But it's important to remember that we can aim for a better reality, even if we are finding the current one charming in some obscure way.

Be a homeless person?......

Temporary jobs are abundant in NL, nobody is unemployed for months.

As for housing, yes it’s hard.

Western Europe has drained eastern Europe of its population, hundreds of thousands moved to Germany, NL, Austria. It’s not new or odd, it’s common, in Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Romania etc it’s almost expected if you have higher education.

Overall I agree with OP but he can live there if he wants.

It’s so common that people go to Western Europe, work there for 5 years, qualify for i.e German pension, and move back home, after retirement they receive German pensions in Croatia where it’s cheaper to live generally.

You didn’t know we were so advanced ay? You can’t work in Switzerland and get part of Swiss pensions in your orange man bald eagle star and stripe lookin ahh country :P

People outside Norway don't know there is a Southern Norway and then there is a Northern Norway. Pretty much night and day (quite literally). Compare education levels, income, daylight hours, climate and temperatures in Finnmark vs Oslo.

Something similar happens in Italy. Although that gap is way smaller compared to a third world country. Is fine detail.

I just finished watching some documentaries on Polish Hooligans. Like Leo's police cam videos lol. Polish and eastern Europe realities are harsh, there is so much violence, conformism, drugs, "nihilism" and sick mentality. You can't comprehend it unless you are from here and notice such things.
I come from eastern Europe. This is a fucking priviledge on a global scale.

But please, realize and live this, if you are in western Europe you are literally in paradise. Like the Netherlands or Norway. I know that people on this forum have heard it a 1000 times, but it's just that true.

I spent 2 months working in the Netherlands. When I came back it was like waking up from a dream. You cannot fathom how different life is in the east. You would be in shock about the things that pass here as normal.

Still, I am super-priviledged. But if I am super, westeners are supererer.

Man where are you from exactly in Eastern Europe?

Eastern Europe is growing very fast, especially the EU countries

Poland at this point is almost on par with the West and will probably reach it in a few years

Czechia and Baltics are also incredibly developed first world countries

They may not be assss good as Netherlands but on a global scale it is still some of the best

Western Europe is life on easy mode.

How come they have such high suicide and especially depression rates?

I never understood that

I remember a friend from Iran who went to study in Western Europe told me

"Even though we have 10000x more problems in Iran than Western Europe, people in Iran seem happier"

United States is like the same size as the entire continent of Europe, it's hard to generalize.

@Karmadhi it may have do to with people in Iran feeling more connected to God, family and tradition , but I'm really not sure . Prolly ppl in first world countries with really solid, loving friends and or families and strong connection to God have the best of both worlds .

Good friend and God make man happy , the absence of make man sad .

Life in Iran is more predictable. In the West the materialistic culture paired with drastic disparities between individuals causes a lot of mental suffering. Some people don't know how to thrive in the West, it's new in ways, not understood very well by most people, so it's confusing and there's a lot of misdirection and bad direction given to people, for example; from religions.

Social media, video games, high internet usage deteriorate mental health significantly, loneliness, individualism, atheism.
