My shortlist:

VirtualBox - computer in a computer

VirtualDub - quick and simple video editing, conversion and effects

FontForge - design new or manipulate existing fonts

Upscayl - AI image enhancement

ChatGPT/Deepseek - (free version obviously) mostly for coding or philosphising

Google Maps on mobile - probably the most mindblowing

The future can be real. The future can be again.

Linux being free is mental.

I only tried it recently for the first time, and its epic.

Oh boy - have fun :) What distro?

I've always marvelled it is free.

I donate what I can to all the software I use that is free.

Even if it's just a buck or two.

Thanks :)

Errr I do a mix. Cos I'm in cybersecurity training at the moment, and my trainings use various virtual machines to teach linux.

Currently have used Ubuntu, and Debian. Might be using some kali soon when I learn more about ethical hacking! I've only done basic ethical hacking so far but each time has been a thrill.

That's cool you donate too btw.

I still can't believe that Blender is free.

I use Notion (free tier) and Obsidian for note taking.

VS Code for coding.

Docker.

There are many open source libraries / tools we use daily in development.

You might want to try QEMU + Virt-manager. Much more performant.

Linux Mint is always a solid option. Stable and reliable.

I'm rocking CachyOS now and loving it. Maybe not ideal as a first distro, though.

Ew. uTorrent isn't that trustworthy and is also packed with ads. Do yourself a favor and switch to qBittorrent.

I'd still not use it.

qBittorrent is open-source, by the way.

uTorrent was great in 2006.

@UnbornTao heh heh I must say, of the two versions:

The one yellow, marked up below, is BY FAR the most venereal disease ridden POS. The arrogance to even call it a program 🤣

Never paid for a single software as most of what I needed has always been free, and always a way around things.

There's already enough things we pay for in life. Humans are being stretched like spaghetti these days.
