Being a real philosopher is a dirty job

32 posts in this topic

It is like being a policeman. You have to deal with the garbage of society, but it is a job that has to be done. As a philosopher you have to deal with the collective ego of society, you have to point out the evil in people and they will fight back, exactly like criminals do.

They will mock you, ignore you, hate you etc. you will have to calculate how much truth can people endure without backlashing on you. Are people ready to hear the truth about human looks and genetics? Are they ready to hear the truth about men and women?

Of course academic philosophy is full of shit. It has to be, everything mainstream has to be full of shit. Otherwise it will shed too much light on the collective devilishness of society.

A dirty business indeed.

uncovering all your self deceptions is like samurai suicide rituals (Seppuku):

I notice that very few people really manage to turn serious philosophy into a life changing engine for their lives. And even if they manage to do it, it takes maybe 15-20 years of suffering to do it properly.

Those who say that they started with self-help 2 years ago and now they are in heaven are kidding themselves. They just did some surface adjustments that improved their survival. In order to realize deep Tier 2 actualization requires maybe 15 years of suffering.

I wanted to become a Leo figure since childhood, but realizing these facts in the recent years, I don't really know if I want to push so much truth onto people anymore. Maybe just coaching them on basic survival, and if they are really ready for serious change, they'll do that themselves, there are enough serious books and mentors for that.

As a philosopher you're going to offend people who are doing philosophy but don't realize it -- and who might even say they hate philosophy.  These are people who want to have it both ways, which is to be expected.  Yes philosophy is an attempt to zero in or probe somebody, but this is not always welcomed.

Philosophy can be extremely intimate.  Pure Philosophy = Love Philosophy.

yea-

however it is important to stop and smell the roses from time to time. What’s any good realizing God if you don’t enjoy the process? Life is ugly but lots of beautiful elements to soak in

The trick is to enjoy the suffering. Like playing GTA. You don't feel the punch that your character takes because you don't identify with it.

The mainstream is actually more right than wrong.

It's just that on areas where it's wrong, it's a big deal. Because then all of society is essentially brainwashed.

It's easy to take for granted everything the mainstream gets right because it's just so obvious. Anti-mainstream bias is real.

As always, I like to point out that everyone's shit smells, including our own. And perhaps this tendency to overlook our own stuff adds to this sense of... spiritual superiority, perhaps.

You have to relativize your point. The mainstream is more right than the mainstream from 100 years ago. It is more right than the anti-mainstream conspiracy theorists. But compare the mainstream academics with some serious philosophers like Ken Wilber and it is like comparing Trump with AOC.

Of course, my shit smells from far away too. But in the last 15 years I made sure to eat the food that makes it smell the least.

I don't see how that changes what I said.

This thread is semi-non-directional.

Philosophy being dirty work is just one philosophy.

OP seems to have some personal ideas tied into the pursuit of Truth.

Okay. :D

It's more about focusing on one's own ignorance and unconsciousness. But I think I understand the sentiment.

What do you mean by the mainstream being generally more right than wrong? Leo made you tens of hours of videos where he explained how almost the whole mainstream epistemology is full of shit. Materialism is full of shit. Neo-liberal economical system we have is devilry. We don't even know what a woman is anymore. Mainstream people are clueless rats. No judgement, discernment. Tell them they are a bunch of rats and they will hate you. Your 20 years of philosophy can get you hated instead of loved. Because your ideas cripple their survival. In the same way police cripple the survival of mafia gangs.

If you relativize and say it is right in regards to keeping the situation from becoming even worse than yes, agree.

Well, you wouldn't receive that very well either, would you?

And again, I don't know where this sort of antagonistic relationship to survival comes from. Again, it's your life. To think that one is somehow "above" survival is delusion.

I mean if you contemplate all the things the mainstream is right about, you will realize it outweighs what it gets wrong.

Anti-mainstream bias is also full of shit.

I did not say I am above survival. I throw an engaging discussion here. Discerning shit. philosophy is fucking my survival too. It is doing that to all of us here maybe. Why are we here? Because you cannot talk this shit to mainstream people. Tell them that the feminine cares less about the truth than the masculine. Tell them that they hallucinate their spouses. Tell them that there is no such thing as time. They will want to meet you again for sure 😂.

@Alexop

You have some mid to strong observations that are now clearly layered in some frustration.

I would recommend asking yourself how philosophy may be affecting your life personally, before we argue generalities.

That's only if you decide to do so, obviously.

Like you could just isolate yourself and do philosophy.
