An Honest Review of Leo’s Work — 10 Years Later

14 posts in this topic

@Leo Gura

I have been sitting with this message for some time, and I finally feel ready to write it.

It has been ten years since I first encountered your work, around 2014- 2015. Looking back now, with distance and clarity, I can say without exaggeration that your presence and teachings were one of the most significant forces in my life and in my path.

Over the years, I met many teachers. Some helped me with practices for the body, others with techniques for the mind. Yet what has become unmistakably clear to me is this: every new teacher I encountered was, in essence, pointing to truths I had already learned from you on a YouTube, sometimes in softer language, sometimes in more spiritual packaging, but never with the same precision.

What you gave me was something far more fundamental than information.

The greatest gift you gave me was integrity. You taught me how to be radically honest with myself. Not morally honest, not socially honest but existentially honest. You taught me how to see the tricks of the mind, how the ego lies to itself, how it rationalizes, manipulates, spiritualizes, and escapes. This ability to see clearly, without self-deception, is the most valuable thing I have ever learned.

You don’t just teach — you have a gift. A rare one. The gift of helping people see the ego games.

Your work did not comfort my ego. It confronted it.

Your videos tore through the self-deceptions again and again. Pieces of the ego were pulled out, sometimes painfully, sometimes violently but always truthfully. The way you challenge the ego is unlike anything I have seen. No teacher I’ve encountered has the same capacity to strike directly at the core of self-deception the way you do.

I spent seven years 2015-2022 deeply immersed in your work: seven years on your channel, and those years were among the most precious years of my life. Without them, I would never have gone further. I would never have begun serious practice: Abiding in the “I Am”, concentration, atma vichara etc and many others.

At some point, something irreversible happened. I became so honest with myself that I can no longer undo what you and others taught me. There is no way back into unconscious self-deception. That line, once crossed, cannot be uncrossed.

Only because of your work was I able to clearly see that there are two levels:

the conceptual and the being-level.

Without you, I would have remained imprisoned in conceptual understanding, trapped in the mental and egoic cage, believing I am a regular human being.

As Nisargadatta Maharaj one said: “Nothing ever happened. There was no creation, no world, no life, no individual. It is all just a dream appearing in consciousness.”

Your work is invaluable. I truly believe it will stand as a contribution to human awakening and understanding far beyond this moment in time.

With profound gratitude and respect.

P.S. Ultimately, there is no Leo and no Galyna as separate entities. This post exists solely as an encouragement for younger and more mature minds alike to question deeply, to reflect honestly, and to consider a real inner shift.

Hi Galyna. Its certainty has been a while. I can totally relate to what you're saying here. I remember a time early on when Leo just starting off. Before the forum even existed. I had my whole spiel about what enlightenment was. Then Leo replied, "This is all thought stories". Gotta love it!

Always the need to correct and or preach the non-dualist dual games aye :D I think you can learn a lot from the Tao Te Ching.

Always the need to play the nit picky, judge mental mind game. You’ve learnt nothing from James. He takes it beyond, which is beyond your grasp apparently. Leo is brilliant, but James is exceptional. Cheers, you’re welcome.

That’s what claiming to know you know is all about, it’s about “This is all thought stories”

The beyond is where most people fear to go, except those who have gone there, it’s rare but it’s not impossible.

Shall we extend our love application and genuine reverence to all posters here on this amazing forum, yes, we’re all doing our very best. We’re all geniuses.

This is just mean. And petty. And a judgement, when it should simply be a discernment.

I've always had the personal feelings that the quality and depth of what is learned is reflective of the teacher. So if James fails to teach - is the failure of the teacher, or the student? Either way you are falling into assumption.

In addition, if more people learn from Leo - who remains the more exceptional teacher? We speak in terms of your labelling one teacher as more exceptional than another - as you raise.

Some big things to think about 🙏

@Galyna I enjoyed your very personal anecdote ❤️

İf someone claims to be teacher or something, has no idea wtf he/she is talking about.

I don't see you claiming to be a teacher - someone else was.

In addition - nothing but ego present claiming someone doesn't know wtf he/she is talking about. Cannot be known.

I've been beyond darling, probably far beyond anything that is discussed on these forums, and yet, what is even more profound, is being right here, in my beautiful humanness and uniqueness. The Father embodied living in the Earth as his holy temple directly through through thy Mother.

Blessed are we :) Halls of mirrors ~

I remember watching Leo's first spiritual enlightenment video when it first came out.  I was like what is this?  I didn't even know what spiritual enlightenment was.
