This tourist guy meets Taliban (after 6:30 mark). They seem chill. I mean, not aggro or anything

Broader Reflection:

Any person or group can act differently depending on circumstances. Under pressures like survival, fear, or authority, even the least likely people can become violent. And violence isn’t only physical. Words can cut as sharply as a knife on skin.

Human behavior is complex. One calm moment doesn’t define someone entirely, and neither does one violent moment.

Of course they are chill.

This is like meeting a Republican at a cafe and walking away thinking  "Wow, that guy was chill."

People are not raging psychopaths.

They are probably abiding in deep states of non-dual awareness :D

I was fearing for that guy in the video the whole time - the tourist. He's brave. I kept thinking he was going to be beheaded. Not really, but I was really concerned he would get in trouble or robbed or something.

I actually suspect that no one makes better first impressions than psychopaths/sociopaths.

If you met Hitler for a coffee he would be a well-mannered likeable guy.

"... but Mr. Führer, I'm Jewish."

He'd probably make you pay for his coffee.

From their perspective their freedom fighters. Most peeps who act terribly see themselves as freedom fighters. The view is "we're being attacked, we need to do something, so let's adopt the darkness of our opponent."

That makes sense in their case, since Afghans are sandwiched between states who are also on the same kind of wavelength as they are, and they've been attacked and occupied by the mightiest empires of their time. Which is pretty interesting given how uninteresting their country is strategically relative to other countries that could have been attacked instead. I'm not surprised why taliban exist, and it's true that they are pretty chill relative to how bad they could be
