Health as #1 priority

42 posts in this topic

I want to make this post to make a point that in the optimal life your health is your #1 priority.

Everything else, even your life purpose is built on the foundation of health.

Sleep, Diet, Excersise and all the specifics within those, also mental/emotional/interal health

The thing is: there is a dimensional difference between being normally healthy like eating 90% clean, sleeping enough and excercising 3 times a week compared to having health as your absolute #1 priority and everything else coming second, meaning same exact bedtime everyday, optimal sleep duration, optimising sleep quality by having your last meal at least 4 hours, optimally 9 hours before going to bed and other factors such as a winddown routine, avoiding excersise 4 hours before bed etc. same with diet and excercise.

I think Leo is the perfect example of this. He certainly put a lot of value on health, but his work was for sure taking a lot more energy, draining his system over the years/decades and now his health is shit (if the situation is still the same, I wasnt active on this forum for a long time) and he is blaming everything on genetics, at least thats how I see it, ofc I might be wrong.

Edit: Ofc I might be wrong but especially after seeing the responses im pretty sure im right about this.

Do not make health your #1 priority unless you have a condition that requires it.

Take care of your health, but then forget about it and move onto higher things.

Having good health enables you to live a purposefull and happy life. But if your life isnt purposeful and happy, why would you try to enable it with health.

Focusing so much on health can actually make you imagine having all kind of sicknesses.

Its also possible that people overfocus on this one domain, because they are too scared to work on other domains and health isnt that scary of an domain. Thats how it was for me.

Health is about the body maintaining a state of homeostasis - so it is really about energy balance.

I am not sure if making it no1 priority is working in balance

Deal with the issue now, on your terms, in your control. Or the issue will deal with you, in ways you won't appreciate, and cannot control.

I personally lean towards the latter myself, but that shouldn't be a universal prescription

most people will be happier in the former category

yes but integrate it into your life.

like you could build chains of routines and habits that lead to better choices such as:

better foods

exercise routines

meditation

etc...

people fill their days with doom scrolling, netflix and other mindless distractions

if your truly optimize your mind and body via specific health protocols

you wont even recognize yourself

and its not that hard to do it. you don't have to do every single healthy habit everyday to the point where it eats up half your day as others are implying

you can cycle through various virtuous habits throughout the week

Stop telling me what to do in the responses or making assumptions about me.

I think everyone who responded misses the point and the significance of health or what health even is.

This post was simply made to make a point and show this perspective, take it or leave it.

And #1 Priority simply means that in general you value it the most, you can still do things that go against the "perfect" health, like traveling to another country, thus damaging your sleep schedule etc, but over the long period of time, health is #1.

This kinda goes with the point above. Homeostasis is very foundational to health, yes, but what if your homeostasis is sleeping 5 hours, eating pizza and burgers and just laying on your couch after stressfull work?

If you "lean" towards 100% priority on health, you are in the 90s and on the other side.

This is a very deep topic to me

In this response I’m going to focus on physical health. Because when you talk about the value of mental health you have a different dilemma at hand. Because there can be things that are not the healthiest for the physical body but are healthy for your mind (let’s say for example a medication for depression with side effects, or allowing yourself some unhealthy food from time to time). So if you prioritize both optimal mental and physical health, they can collide and you’ll have to weigh them against each other (for example someone might chose not to consume medication for their mental health because of side effects)

Back to physical health.

I am lucky to have great physical health. I don’t have any physical health issues, my energy is stable all the time, i have never seriously injured myself etc.

Ever since i was a kid I’ve had a vivid imagination. Sometimes i would imagine going through horrible reincarnations and feeling scared. Or I’d look up some really painful disease and feel disturbed (like trigeminal neuralgia)

I read about people going through all sorts of severe physical health issues and I sympathize with how much the quality of their life worsens.

I don’t think you can live optimal life without optimal physical health. A life with chronic pain, chronic fatigue, brain fog, nausea will automatically be of worse quality

Maybe someone will say “but some pain is bareable”. I don’t know if I agree. Pain is something you don’t wanna feel, so any pain is at least an annoyance in life and brings the quality down, even if it’s mild

There is immense peace in having great physical health. Not having to worry about pain, not having to worry about having the energy to do things. No amount of, let’s say money, would I trade for my physical health. That’s how much I value it.

I think it’s a good idea for your wellbeing, to strive for optimal health, maybe even crucial. (Don’t have to be like Bryan Johnson, but I mean like pain free and stable energy).

And how to do that, there are different ways.

One important factor is your own body awareness. When your body sends you a signal that something is wrong you have to be connected enough to your body to feel it properly, to be able to do something about it.

That is a foundation. Then comes your lifestyle. If you have naturally optimal health, you don’t necessarily need to have optimal lifestyle to have optimal health, like if you’re young and healthy. But if you know your body to be more sensitive, like some people can be born with different conditions and sensitivities, or with old age comes more sensitivity, then you might need to take additional steps to ensure optimal health.

So I think optimal physical health is non negotiable for well being and should be prioritized, but you only have to “work on it” so much to the degree that is needed for your particular body.

And in some cases when something benefits your mental health more (let’s make hypothetical scenario that there is a psychedelic that will give you awakening but will give you headache after) then it might be worth the temporary sacrifice of optimal physical health. But nonetheless your health is prioritized.

@Florian

Hmmmm yes yes which is why I added the 'not sure' as I do not know what is best for others 🙏

I just know for myself I take health and maintaining homeostasis - and increasing the overall energy of the balanced state, as no1.

At it's core it is energy balance. Constantly going out and back in balance.

Neverending process. Nonstop process.

Until death hahahaha ! Live healthy, well... Hopefully die fast

Leo loves his character of a pain in the ass professor in a white shirt, blacked out, more serious than everyone else, by densifying this character it was logical from a non-dual point of view that he manifests poor health, to be able to be even more annoying.

In other people it will be insomnia ( :) ), a cancer...

Yet another complicated topic idea for Valentin 🫨

I think the universe is a simulator, a projection of what we consciously accept as true.
Belief articulation can generate increasing movements; for example, if you have the belief that eating carrots is good for your health and that more is better, you'll see your character eating more and more carrots.

If Leo thinks his character is awesome, he'll certainly want more and more and will evolve his belief system, his self-concept, around the densification of this character; beliefs will be destroyed or simply de-densified, and others will emerge or simply densify, making the initial belief to be densified in particular (Leo's character) real.

So, typically, as Leo loves his blackpilled character, he will generate beliefs like "I suffer from chronic fatigue," as the structure of the largest belief, in macro terms, in the fractal model "I am blackpilled on life."

There would be more to say, for example, about a possible distinction between a belief that grows and a belief that becomes denser.
