Jordan Peterson vs 20 Athiests

I think Jordan Peterson did very well overall, considering he's trying to have an intellectual discussion with these kids who seriously don't know what they're talking about. And those on this reddit thread should be ashamed with their straw manning of JP.

He tries to find a bit of nuance and they mock him for not committing to the Christian label. Ironically, JP is being somewhat post-modernist by steering away from the rigid label of 'Christian'.

What do you think?

JP did horrible.

He couldnt engage, he dodged a bunch of questions , he redefined the term "God" in a way that makes it so that the term atheist becomes meaningless, he virtue signaled about morality and he said false things (like you cant have two or more mutually exlusive conceptions of God - of course you can)

He did well considering the amount of whipper-snappers he had to face.

He dosent know how to have a conversation. He knows how to teach people. Hes never learned anything hes just reading books and coming to conclusions. This is what is meant by using your intellect not your intelligence. Hes claiming to know God without feeling it how can you know its qualia by looking at it?

Fucken hell, it's incredible to witness how emotionally charged up he gets when really pinned down. You can see this when the debaters force him to really define his terms. He manages to evade clear definitions with crafty word play. Also, you can see his inability to manage internal frustration. He gets so keyed up he ends up simply attempting to come at the debater with authority by literally telling them off like a child. Then he rides that high of 'winning' to purge the emotion and go back to a calm state. Rinse/repeat. He was really not having it when he felt anyone was steering him into a trap with leading questions.

I noticed he was more willing to engage with debaters that were women. He may prefer a softer approach as this lets him remain stoic and a lot clearer in his points. He opened up when he was able to remain in a clean, composed emotional state. It was good when he was able to concede topics outside his scope of knowledge, but I really wanted to see him dissect a point (a point he hasn't thought on expensively) on the fly, as this would have displayed sound reasoning skills. It came across like he didn't want to appear wrong, but you can admit to being wrong and still successfully debate a point. LOTS of ego. Not enough surgical precision of the mind (but that is what I personally admire in men).

He got torn apart by some of the men. Couple of those boys were fucken firing on all cylinders!

I think he has some great things to say - when he steers in his lane IE psychology etc

As an aside I went to one of his talks in Melbourne prior to his explosion into insanity. He has a mighty presence and was very gracious to speak to. He remarked a few times on the fact I bowed when meeting him, he really enjoys signs of respect and manners :P But I bow to everyone I meet for the first time...

Thanks for the share!

He's aging very fast. Twice as fast as a normal person.

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

Peterson’s knowledge of God and religion is purely intellectual.  He can use his analytic mind to comprehend that - despite all the flaws  - religion is a good idea.  But he hasn’t had any direct experience.  He is too much in his head.  That is why he is so wishy washy when people try to pin him down on what he specifically knows.  Because he doesn't.  He reminds me of Terence McKenna whose giant intellectual mind reduced the profundity of a psychedelic experience to machine elves.

I also don’t find these debates very useful because they are all assuming a straw-man conception of God which comes from the Judeo-Christian tradition.  This is what most westerners were brought up with.  Even an elemental reading of Eastern scriptures would answer most of their basic questions.

Under the definition what JP provided for the term 'Christian' - You can be a Christian even if you think that Jesus didn't exist and you also think that no God exist at all.

I don't understand why some people think that JP should be taken when it comes to theology or philosophy.

Like this was a laughable performance by him.

JP's worldview holds that everyone is a Christian, they just don't know it, because Christianity is true.

That's how deeply circular his paradigm is.

I mean, it's almost right, if he just replaced Christian with God. xD

A Christian is just one who has confused Christianity with God.

The main issue I have with Christianity is their exclusivity claim – the claim that they have the only true path and every other path is false.  This interpretation comes from the Roman Empire.  The Emperor wanted to unify a failing empire with one God / one emperor and dump all the other gods.   If you drop the exclusivity, the rest of it is true.

@Leo Gura You could ask for participate to the emission 🤔

It would be easy for you, would bring people to your work and and products, and it would promote nonduality.

@Schizophonia I don't think they would want me. They are doing these videos for clicks and I am not that popular.

Remember that such videos are for entertainment, not understanding anything serious.

Okay I just got around to watching the second half of this...

Jesus Christ that was very painful to watch. They're kind of going around in circles playing word games and achieving an approximated grand total of absolutely jack shit.

* We need a Richard Dawkins Vs. Leo Gura debate

You could try it. Perhaps they might accept it and after you KO all of those whipper snappers that might be your ticket to fame.
