Those posts were far from positive neutral. So, you may have had the inspiration of this… but it came put something else. It was not endearing to scientists. Those rats!

It's pretty obvious that academia can't be contemplative if you think about it. It was obvious to me already before experiencing university. It's too inundated with incentives and rules which makes it more scholastic than anything.

The fact that you can't make statements without basing it on a source is such a double edged sword. You have to partially outsource your sensemaking to be accepted in academia.

It is positive to be called a gym rat, implying fitness is a priority.

@Leo Gura Hmm, really doing the Socratic method for understanding the cultural use of the term, and your own interpretation of the term is useful. 
 

When you say gym rat, to me it doesn’t align with how gym rat is used by most people. It usually means someone who goes to the gym a lot. Positive term, casual, funny. 
 

However, if to you rat means "small minded" then that changes Gym rat, and aligns with science rat in how you spoke in your posts. It also for my clarifies the scope of what rat means to you when saying scientists are rats.

I use terms like rat, baboon, monkey, etc because there is a genuine parallel between the small-mindedness of animals and humans.

A scientist is as far away from understanding God as a rat is from understanding science.

I use the term to highlight their small-mindedness and closedmindedness. And because it is funny.

If they were not so dogmatic and closedminded, I wouldn't call them names.

I am also pretty rat like, a little bit Weaselle, a bit baboon. Perhaps I can be more wise through my own stupidity.

 

Okay, gotta sign off. Been on the bus all night barely slept. Spent a lot of time realizing how dumb I’ve been in core areas of my life purpose and personal management. I have been foolish af. But, making a plan.
