Of course society requires certain basic conformist building blocks to function. Language is one example. Laws against murder and rape is another.

That is fine. That's not the problematic kind of conformity.

Make sure you guys understand that I am NOT asking you to demonize basic social building blocks when I speak of conformity.

I am half-expecting someone to take a shit on the dinner table and then say, "But Leo said to not be conformist!"

I think English is a bad choice in the context of this argument. I meant to say I learned English as a second language and realized that I could have learned any other language and would have probably been able to see the world from a totally different perspective. But still there is a good case for why learning English is a great thing after all. Same as visiting some trendy places or buying some kind of shoes based on an expert recommendation, plus other things that you can temporarily confirm to until you realize another alternative.
The problem with conformity is when it turns to blind conformity that is unquestionable and also because it weakens one's ability to think freely  and discover a better alternative or even the possibility of that existing.

What I'm ultimately saying is that if not enough context is given you sacrifice shifting the focus form the middle of the road way of thinking about these things, which is probably at the end what you meant to begin with.

Dude, are you for real??

You guys have the weirdest twisted notions of what conformity is.

I don't even know what to say to you.

I talked about Conformity for 4 fucking hours, gave you 500 examples, multiple blog posts, and apparently still no one gets it.

LMFAOOOOO

My interpretation of Elton John is he has no interest in marrying a woman but because of social pressures he had to adapt

There are people in Islam forced to marry when they have no interest in marriage. This is what I'm pointing to.

It could be Elton John didn't know he was gay and he married a woman, in that case then it's pretty straightforward conformity.

It could be, he knew he was gay, and he loved the woman and wanted to marry her, he is so brainwashed and conformist that he still marries a woman. The conformity is so deep that a gay man is marrying a woman.

There's another level to conformity that you're not talking about.

Telling me that genetics is not conformity is nonsense. It's hardcoded conformity unchangeable unavoidable.

This whole experience was designed by things completely out of my control, and I am conformed to. Shaped to, formed to.

Conformity is what your shaped by, if you don't want to define it that way no problem.

Wearing a Waldo costume in an unconforming way, because your conscious of conformity is still another version of conformity because you're exposed to Halloween, you would never wear a Waldo costume if you knew nothing about Halloween.

You would never use English if you're not exposed to English, we have conformed to English so hard there's no ability to do anything else. Most people cannot think without language, though it's possible. But it's so rooted into our experience.

CONFORMING TO THE SYSTEM OF ENGLISH LMFAOOOO

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

Man, this is hard. Being conscious and intelligent is hard. I always find gaps in my thinking and I others and it’s just so hard.

Story of my life. I wish someone would have warned me properly about how much suffering real spiritual work causes before I started the journey. The opposite was sold actually.

Either ways I would have probably done this work anyways but just having proper expectations would have made this journey much more smoother.

I don't think Leo was talking about existential conformity - more the type of conformity that arises from the social domain/survival and it's status hierarchies. The intention was a point of assessment.

I don't think it was said conformity is solely related to social domain.

@Thought Art That's why we gotta keep things funny.

Existential humor is key to all this.

A lot of people really be trippin on this forum. I think they don’t realize that being a non-conformist is confomrning just as much as standard conformity.

Right, that's the implicit point but it was also said that all uses of it outside the social domain is hog feed to fatten the philosophy academics. lol

Oh... Well. I think there are more contexts for it - especially within physics & reality. Forces are the largest domain I can think of just right off the bat.

Some of the structures of society that assist it to operate - humanity as a collective - to sustain, feed, power all of us? Requires conformity. Different domain I know. And many of these domains are free of group think, but exist within the survival paradigm :)

Notice that everything that you do is based off conformity. The way you think, move speak act all the fake ass shit that you do to make people feel comfortable, your immediate responses all that shit is conformity

Why do you floss your teeth (or dont)?

Is it because you've been taught to and simply created the habit without even thinking?

Or is it because you got the insight that food might get stcuk im between your teeth and it starts to rot inside tour mouth, and you don't want that so you floss?

The biggest impact is the tone of your thoughts, and the tone of your inner voice and the tempo of your inner voice.

Right now you're reading this and you're reading it with a specific tone of voice, but you could choose any other tone of voice and rhythm and it would have a vastly different effect on your physiology.

I will try this out. I love this idea, actually.

A form of conformity I fall into is given music with more listens more value. For example if I see a song has 1bill streams and one with out 500million I tend to bias the one with more streams as better.
