One main point is about figuring out what can undermine or establish a given rule (for example how do you check whether the rules of inference is true and what it even means for it to be true)?

The other main point is the claim that there are rules that no empirical fact can undermine (they might be true by definition or they might be true because of its axioms or for other reasons)

There are a bunch of rules and phrases and inferences where there is no empirical referent (it doesn't make any claim about the world) - in those cases how do you check whether they are true or not?

Look up the problem of induction and look up propositional logic and more specifically what soundness and validity is.

Okay, but to me that is just syntax.

Yeah, but are you getting caught up in these definitions?

I don't know what that supposed to point out.

Without observing reality these logical constructs couldn’t have been established

Whats the argument for that?

Do you think that the rules suddenly don't hold up if you change empirical facts about the world? (because again there are obviously rules that have nothing to do with reality)

@zurew Well, if it has nothing to do with reality why bother with it or, hold it so tightly?

Because it can be useful for certain things, just as how fiction is useful or good or entertaining  even if its not true or doesnt exist.

But notice that we suddenly let go of epistemology and we switched to pragmatics.

#187

I was baffled when I started studying philosophy at university and found out that no one (either teachers nor students) truly cared about making sense of reality. It was a huge disappointment.

Fortunately, I discovered Actualized.org during my studies, and it inspired me to become a monk. The teachings on Enlightenment and meditation seemed far more important for making sense of reality than academic study. But then came a second disappointment: no one truly cared about Enlightenment or making sense of reality there either!

I had hoped to find people who shared the same desire as me, but they weren’t in either place. Obviously, I can’t take any academic or monastic person seriously, nor do I have any hope left in them, since they don’t even care about understanding reality. It’s mind-blowing that such a fundamental interest in life can’t be found anywhere on Earth.

Aren’t these all aspects of reality though? Fiction exists as fiction. Logic as logic. That’s all “real”.

@Leo Gura

Are you planning on putting out that Boot Strapping episode?

Are you actually making an alien consciousness course?

I have half an outline for it. But it's sort of a half-baked topic. I need to figure out how to make it meaningful.

@Leo Gura Have you read the book Xenophon : Conversation of Socrates ?

While I was reading this book it was mentioned that Self-discipline was better than Self-Indulgence and Self-discipline makes people happiest. To what extent you agree with this or what your experience tells ?

@Leo Gura Is your video game your working on a business venture as much as it is a creative one? Do you hope to make a lot of money off it at some point? Was that one of your original intentions?

@vinc3nc What apps are you using to make these. Looks very realistic!

Its likely just Sora. So ChatGPT is probably the only thing you'd need.
