Prison is usually more pleasant than county

Clearly you haven't watched any prison documentaries.

Pleasant is literally the last word that comes to mind.

The guards are there to keep them from getting out not to protect them.

No, they have legal duty to protect inmates. Inmates can sue if a prison fails to protect them to a certain extent. It doesn't work in practice like that always though.

The judge has to follow laws and legal minimums. That does not make his decision good or just.

10 years is not a fair punishment for what Brand did.

@Leo Gura exactly.

and this is based on her perception vs his.

he text her 3 months later asking to hook up again. Who would do that knowing they’d raped them? They wouldn’t risk it. He’s not that dumb.

hes actually extremely bright. Hence being so manipulative which he does admit.

This might very well not be the case when he actually starts his sentence.

Boris Becker received no special protection during his time in UK prison.

As in 10 years is too much or too little?

Yeah, his punishment will be too high for the crime.

Anal sex is not worth 10 years in prison. Murderers get 10 year terms.

2 years would be enough for his crimes. And that would avoid destorying his family. 10 years will destroy his family.

Too much. He'll be out either way  with a quality lawyer.

He probably won't do too much time at all.

The right wing is spreading disinfomation that the Russell Brand conviction isn’t fair, e.g. Megyn Kelly.  The right wing loves rapists.

The prosecution in this case was extremely competant and this is a case of the good guys having gone through an enormous amount of hard work to come up with cases that could be prosecuted years after the fact.  And keep in mind, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Also, the six women made enormous sacrifices in order to prosecute these cases.  But in our shallow media obssessed culture there is zero sympathy for victims (both men and women).

To be fair, I think most of us here, based on the actual evidence from 20 years ago, were slightly surprised that the jury found him guilty.

Most people are ignorant of the law and how it works, i.e "trial by youtube", "trial by reddit".   This conviction was the result of hard work.  No bullshit.  No shortcuts.   Years of work to gather real evidence that will stand up in a court of law.  English courts don't tolerate bullshit and Russell Brand's theatrics fell flat.

That is not in dispute.

Hard legal work has no relation to what is fair as a punishment.

You can work really hard to convict a guy for stealing a loaf of bread.

Have you spent a day there? You might change your tune if you did. Ain't no fucking reset. Try being shackled everywhere you go. And they lock the cell down. No clocks. Time stops.

lol. Dude, the common prison experience isn't that you're shackled everywhere you go like you're some death row inmate or Cyrus the Virus from Con Air. You are basically free to roam for most of the day, in and out of your cell as you please. Have you ever seen Orange is The New Black? That's what most prisons are like.

What if this is just fascination + identity + seriousness being inflated into universal importance?

I just saw a report that said emergency vehicles and ambulances were sent to the prison where Brand is being held. No word yet on the reason for the response.
