New Tesla Roadster can fly

25 posts in this topic

I remember a time when everybody thought electric cars were a joke. So there will always be fools who naysay. But obviously this tech won’t replace normal cars. But just be an addition. That high pressure air is lethal for bystanders.

Tesla: timeline of misleading claims

* 2013 — Hyperloop: Promoted ultra-high-speed tube transport reaching 760 mph; no commercial passenger system materialised.

* 2016 — Solar Roof: Showcased as a near-term product before large-scale production was achievable.

* 2016 — Full Self-Driving: Claimed hardware would enable full autonomy, despite later hardware upgrades and continued reliance on driver supervision.

* 2017 — Roadster 2: Promised for 2020; repeatedly delayed for years.

* 2017 — Tesla Semi: Promised for 2019; deliveries began in 2022, with mass production delayed.

* 2017 onwards — Boring Company Loop: Promoted as high-speed, high-capacity transport; Las Vegas instead uses human-driven Teslas in narrow tunnels.

* 2019 — Cybertruck: Advertised at $39,900 with a 500-mile range; the original price and specifications did not materialise as promised.

* 2019 — Robotaxis: Musk predicted over one million robotaxis by 2020; the promised fleet never materialised.

* 2020 onwards — Full Self-Driving: Repeated predictions of imminent unsupervised driving failed to materialise.

* October 2024 — Optimus robot: Human teleoperation or assistance was involved in many interactions, creating a misleading impression of autonomous capability.

* 2024 — Cybercab: Presented as a purpose-built autonomous taxi; the promise of scalable, driverless commercial operation remains unfulfilled.

Yet he's accomplished much more than any of his detractors combined lol.

I'm not an Elon fanboy by any means but he's accomplished quite a bit regardless.

Is he overhyped?

For sure...

There's nothing really groundbreaking or innovative about any of the companies he runs besides SpaceX.

To say he is this generations Thomas Edison is pretty hyperbolic and ridiculous.

But from an engineering and operations perspective he's basically elite.

It's the same dilemma as Kanye or Michael Jackson, Genius in one area, but doing total damage in another.
Where is the line? DOGE recked a lot of lives, should Musk be excused because he builds "cool" tech?

Tier 1 can't handle this dilemma, and picks one side or another.

I think the definition of cool is different from person to person. The stuff in the presentation is totally pointless therefor uncool for me. If it would solve a real world problem it would be cool.
The SD Orange "just doing it because you can", does not fly for me, does not make it cool.

Deep down he is a geek who just likes cool new tech.

He is living out his geek tech fantasies like a James Bond villian.

Exactly and every James Bond villain wants to rule the world, with Musk it's through tech.
