Brasil Elections No sense Results

15 posts in this topic

I like this video very much. I am in Brasil now and Brasilian Society and Politics is full of crazy contraticions. Now we are near the elections and some batshit corruptions going on

So, if there is a place where politicians are clueless this place is Brasil.

The Election will show now if even after all the scandals of Bolsonaro Family,Vorcaro Master Bank, and many other shit, the people will still vote against their own interests. They call here in Brasil, "Poor Rigth Wingers", maybe similar to the MAGA people. Here are people who benefited from public services as "Bolsa Family" Health Benefits and much more.

I dont know yet the amount of strategy Flávio  Bolsonaro and his alliances (Trump included) are doing to he be able to win the fisrt term.

People here are saying that if he won the first, the chances for a Turn over in the second will be difficult.

I know there a few brasilians here so I dont hope to much engagement in this thread. But I appreciate any sharing  since some of you may have acess to comentaries about this that are not coming to my algoritm.

I agree, but people are voting against Lula , not rooting for bolsonaro.

The left wing needs to wake up and reinvent itself.

The right wing is full of rising yougsters, we don't see this in left wing. Lula is almost by himself.

Alot of self criticism is needed, maybe this way we can improve in the future.

Its sad but this is democracy , let's hope they don't break the country apart.

Yes or perhaps you're the one missing pieces of the puzzle. After all you don't even live in Brazil.

In my opinion, the rise of neo-fascism in Brazil is inevitable. That's the result of two decades of corporate media building this "anti-PT" and "anti-Lula" sentiment, blaming them for all problems. Bolsonaro (Jair) discovered a formula to surf this wave, like Trump in the US, the right person, with the right personality and the right discourse at the right time.  The right-wing learned that formula pretty quickly and took over. The Left we have is old-school and slow to learn in a fast-pace enviroment, no wonder we are getting demolished.

The worst thing that happened, in my opinion, is social media and Whatsapp. Fake news and extreme discourse spread like wildfire in those apps, and also the Big Techs obviously favors neo-fascists. Slowly brainwashing millions of minds, day by day. Now we have an unstoppable force with Lula at the end of his life.

My predictions: Flavio Bolsonaro will win this election; he will have the majority in Congress, the Senate, and the Supreme Court, plus corporate media, billionaires, Big Tech, agrobusiness, the evangelical churches, etc. They will take everything they can for decades. We are in for, at least, 20 years of neo-fascism in power. Horrible times are coming.

So, what to do about it? I have been contemplating a lot about it, and this is what i came up with:

1. Develop a strong spiritual connection and meaning. Enlightenment, mystical experiences, God-Realization and all of that. Complete recontextualization of Reality 24/7.

2. Self-Mastery. Strong meditation skills, strong concentration, strong ability to be in the present without wavering.

3. Life Purpose. Find something to devote your life to, bonus points if this also makes you rich.

4. Master survival. Make a lot of money, buy some property, diversify your investiments as much as possible, buy some land, build some self-sustaining farm or something. Buy some guns (Flavio will make it easy), learn how to shoot, protect yourself and your family.

5. Earn dollars somehow. You must have a couple of international bank accounts with dollars and maybe euros in it. If the Real goes to shit, this will save you.

6. Think of a plan B to leave the country. Personally, this would be my last option, but i would prepare for it beforehand. Maybe you can have some European citizenship, maybe go live in Asia or something.

Government in Brazil is pretty weak in general. If anything the worse that can come there is more of what’s been happening which is almost a like failed state. At least in Rio it was kinda unclear what the government even does there. The city is dangerous as hell and dirty and all the public institutions suck. They kinda upkeep the infrastructure though. No clue what the left was doing there even though the right is probably far worse. I know some social programs under the left lead to an increase in the quality of life among the very poor in Brazil which the country has many of.

How was Lula in recent years for Brasil?

The left-wing in Brazil is shadowed by communism and socialism, and a lack of financial responsibility.
The right-wing is a mix of deep stage blue (especially evangelicals/protestants, which tend to be more traditional than catholics nowadays) with orange (neoliberals, "faria limers") that demonize social policies and deny environmentalism in the name of "prosperity" and "meritocracy".

Neoliberals unfortunately don't have the nuance to understand how much worse (red/blue) candidates like Flavio Bolsonaro are from options like Romeu Zema (blue/orange). Even educated people that attended top universities vote happily for the Bolsonaro family.

The Bolsonaro family is arguably a stage red clan that took advantage of the messy political situation the country was left at since the irresponsible overspending and deep corruption from Lula's party, that stayed in power from 2002 until 2016, especially from 2010 on when Dilma Rousseff was elected. As @Recursoinominado said.

The Bolsonaro family is obviously also deeply corrupt.

At the end of the day, it will take decades for the country itself to change significantly. Systems are complex and have huge inertia.

I left Brazil for Europe 8 years ago. One of the best decisions of my life.

We have many problems, but Rio is a particularly bad place in Brazil. Rio is dominated by organized crime and militias (basically ex-cops and ex-military guys who started criminal organizations; they compete with drug traffickers; both are pretty bad, i am talking). They are everywhere, including in politics. But, as bad as it seems, Brazil's government under Lula brought many safety nets to the poorest people. Hunger used to be a huge problem in Brazil until Lula got elected; now we are at a record low. I wouldn't say the government is weak, especially considering the size of our territory. We have universal health care (SUS) that can reach far places DEEP into the Amazon forest. But, it's a problem because Lula is an exception here. Our politics is dominated by right-wing elites that want only to extract as much as possible from the State and give NOTHING to the population, so they are always sabotaging any attempt to make people's lives easier because it means more budget and more taxes for the rich. Whenever Lula or his party is gone, these right-wing politicians take over the Government and promote huge budget cuts in programs that benefit the poor, so hunger statistics rise, people get desperate, and unemployment and prices rise, etc.

So Bolsonaro won?

His son won the first round of the elections; we are going to vote in the second round between only Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro on October 25. But, my prediction is that Bolsonaro will win this time. The US is meddling in our elections to elect Flavio Bolsonaro, who promised to make Brazil completely submissive to the US/Trump. https://english.elpais.com/international/2026-10-02/trump-says-he-is-following-brazils-elections-very-closely.html

He did what he could, but he didn't have good numbers in Congress and the Senate. His main job was to stop a coup that was attempted by Bolsonaro in 2022 (he is in jail because of it). He restarted many social programs that were shut down by Bolsonaro, Our economy is doing good, unemployment and hunger is at a record low. He managed to free people who make less than 5 thousand reais from taxes (benefited 16 million people). But his party is made of old-school politicians; they don't have good skills with social media and our social media is flooded by fake news about our economy. Many people believe we are "bankrupt", they say, "Lula and his party bankrupted Brazil; everything is horrible; we HAVE to take them out". It is impossible to convince them otherwise, even using statistics. They have no epistemology, so they believe in anything they see on social media, even if it contradicts "real life" and serious statistics.

I believe there is no going back for Brazil now, EVEN IF Lula wins this election, it is only delaying Bolsonarismo's rise for 4 years. He is old, it's his last election and no one else can beat them for the foreseeable future. They will control Congress, the Senate, the Supreme Court, and the presidency.

I cannot assess recent years, but over his career, IMO, Lula and his party wasted decades of development with overspending (esp. Dilma) and corruption, which culminated in the terrible image the left-wing now has in Brazil.

When he took power in 2003, Brazil had a stabilized economy and rode a commodity boom. Had Lula done the right thing, Brazil could have developed in pace like South Korea did in the 1970s–90s.

Lula failed in too many aspects.
At this point Flavio might be better.

Or even Trump(Nobody thought about this option yet)

I agree with this. Traditional and conformist right-wingers are all secretely jerking off to Bolsonaro's pictures in their closet. Electing Lula now will only postpone the election of Flavio or another Bolsonaro clan member in the future.

Corruption will continue for decades on. Brazil is the country of "jeitinho" and corruption.

🤣

If Flavio wins Trump controls Brazil indirectly, as the kid is eager to sit on elder's lap.
