What car do you recommend?

@Davino

Yes, I would have to agree with Leo in the sense that Lexus/Toyota make the best practical efficient vehicles for everyday people, but are considered boring mass market econoboxes in the car enthusiast community.

@OmniNaut If that is your sole reason for choosing that over the mini, in a sense would you say that is sort of conforming to non-conformity?

It depends on tastes, but when I buy a car I want it to last long. I want something well done in general.

I might buy a Chinese car in the meantime though, they're extraordinary price quality wise. Like an Omoda 5. I don't need anything more really.

God-Realize, this is First Business. Know that unless I live properly, this is not possible.

There is this body, I should know the requirements of my body. This is first duty.  We have obligations towards others, loved ones, family, society, etc. Without material wealth we cannot do these things, for that a professional duty.

There is Mind; mind is tricky. Its higher nature should be nurtured, then Mind becomes Wise, Virtuous and AWAKE. When all Duties are continuously fulfilled, then life becomes steady. In this steady life GOD is available; via 5-MeO-DMT, because The Sun shines through All: Living in Self-Love, Realizing I am Infinity & I am God

Lexus is a great upper end car. You really don't need anything fancier.

Toyota and Telsa designs are nothing alike. Tesla is minimalist and Toyota has a bunch of busy, cheap, needless lines. Toyota is making some of ugliest cars today.

The interior makes a big difference for me.

Also with cars you have to factor in service costs.

As soon as you go euro parts are harder to come by. Less alternatives and more OEM only. Services can be HUGE - routine minor and major at certain km %/number.

This is where Toyota, Subaru etc and a lot of the asian makers have a huge advantage.

@Leo Gura Do these not look alike to you?

From a practical/value standpoint it definitely does not make sense to get anything fancier than a Lexus, but after researching the higher end of luxury vehicles I can say that the attention to detail, style, level of comfort, performance, quietness and quality are on a completely different level in comparison with something like a Rolls Royce.

They do not. And you took a tame version of a Toyota design. Toyota has much worse designs on the roads.

I have a negative view of all extravagant luxury goods. So, no, I do not salivate over a Rolls Royce.

How would you say the styling differs?

You mean like this one? It’s funny I actually picked this car out with my mother back in 2016, I still love the design I think it’s really unique, futuristic, and still looks modern 10 years later.

What’s your argument against extravagant luxury goods?

I have more of a love/hate relationship with extravagant luxury goods, on one hand I appreciate the design and craftsmanship, and on the other hand I feel like they are overpriced and attract unsavory characters/communities in society.

@coca No not really the only reason. The Mini, and that said the Fiat 500, is the go to Retro car. The conformist don't think just follow. You can choose a conformist option and not be conformist, you choose it because you want it from an emotional or rational level. But to be honest those people are rare, especially when it comes to non utilitarian options.

For a while I was really interested in interior & design. Mostly the retro, 50's to 70's Scandinavian but also Charles & Ray Eames, I became interested into their stories the people behind iconic design, what kind of person and thinking led to design this.

The thing now is the Eames lounge chair is now the conformist way of being the "design savvy" person, few people know about the design process and people behind it.

I love the classic flow of lines in old design, also materials like wood, where more naturally integrated into design back then.
My whole interior basically is an eclectic mix of 50's to 80's (mostly European design), hell my HiFi setup is a 70's Yamaha amplifier.

I don’t trust anything that’s labeled luxury made. Too many charlatans in business. Most luxury cars don’t feel like they are better built or higher quality in terms of material or design compared to most mass market cars. These brands want to pocket as much cash as possible too so I wouldn’t be surprised if there is all sorts of sneaky bait and switch stuff going on where a much larger amount of parts, especially advanced technical stuff are sourced from China. Luxury watch brands already do this.

Luxury cars are quieter inside, less road noise, and ride better, and then have a bunch of ridiculous features.

If you commute in an urban environment I think sports cars are practical and safer, you can drive more defensively, ridiculously better brakes and wheels, and you can filter through traffic better with the power, get into traffic faster and safer. I feel like they will evolve the category name to something else in the future, more responsible sounding. Traffic is dangerous, the most dangerous thing most people are exposed to.

Toyota is usually the most economically maintainable. Mazda is actually being acclaimed for this lately too. If you don't drive much, a low mileage vehicle that is a bit older would save a lot on purchase price, and brand doesn't matter as much. If you have much of a highway commute, the compact cars actually do worse mpg at the higher speeds, but better in the city.

More and more car manufacturers are trying to get vendor lock-in, when it comes to repairs. They want to control the parts, with ridiculous mark-ups, they want to control the labour. They will basically try to copy Apple when it comes to vendor lock-in when it comes to maintenance and repair.
Their excuse is about safety and controlling the quality of the repair, but it's the same excuse for giving up privacy for preventing child rape.

That's why the Right-to-Repair movement is so important now.

The EU is fighting back with repairability and sustainability laws.

People like Louis Rossman fighting against tech companies, like Apple, HP and many more.

People like Mat Armstrong, Mark McCann, RichRebuilds trying to fight companies like Bugatti, BMW, Audi, Lucid, Fisker, Tesla. Ofcourse they do it for entertainment and viewers, but they are exposing the schemes that are going on now in the Car industry. These channels are getting so much attention that car brands are trying to save their brand image, by denying their strategy or in some cases changing their policies.

@Leo Gura You might like Polestar's designs.

Today's cars look like they've been designed by some IT-dudes, zero soul.
