what if someone is very passionate about ping pong, it doesn't changes anyone's life, it is just silly ping pong, it doesn't leave any impact on the world. In that sense following passions can also be very selfish and therefor unalligned with God who is selfless.

Don't take it too literally. Changing people's lives can literally mean entertaining them the time of a ping pong session on tv. Not everyone has to change the world dramatically, at the end it's all just a dream, chill out.

careful with your thinking here. you make a lot of judgements. you can be very passionate about ping pong, ok. maybe that opens doors. maybe you build relationships with people you care about that leads you to new opportunities. maybe you teach resilience and responsibility through the sport. you completely tank your point by throwing in your judgements about ping pong. with this way of thinking you can disqualify anything anyone chooses to pursue.
