How to be a good friend?

Someone who is appreciated by others?

Someone who shares love with others?

Someone who people want to hang around with?

Be grounded in your own life and purpose. Focus on yourself. It's counter-intuitive like that.

Be a source of value, and people will naturally gravitate towards you. And be kind when you relate to them. That's all friendship really is.

Try to raise the creativity to co-creation and inclusion.  This is extending the link or relation.

friendship is generally created through proximity and similarity.

on top of that, i think it's important to forge an atmosphere of mutual support: when you can easily share resources (knowledge, emotional support, inviting someone for a coffee, etc.), you do so gladly because you know you'll also benefit from your friends' support soon enough. this is opposed to explicitly weighing favours against each other or keeping close track of "who invested how much".

If I think you’ll be there for me when I need you. I think of you as a good friend

Offer value to people's lives and be there for them. That can be as someone they can rely on in tough times but also someone that is fun to be around, organizes cool events, brings the group together, helping people achieving their goals, etc.

@Ima Freeman Earnestness is the number one long term quality. Don't need to do much; the less effort the better the relationship, whereas the less earnestness there is, notice how the performance requirements tends to go up on simulations you run.

@Ima Freeman I would say support them, help them, be selfless. I look in a friend for someone who is positive and encourages me and pushes me to be better. But honestly, many guys are not worth being friends with, not because you don't "get" something from it, more because it is depleting to give and not be returned the favor again and again. Like at some point you got to draw lines with people. I would say I don't want to be friends with 99.9999% of the people. Even my friends that I have right now I am not like too close with them per say, I call them twice a week or so, we just mainly do stuff together, which is honestly a more mature way of friendship, being productive. If you become too close you might start pulling each other down or keeping each other low, which is a real thing, be careful. This is not something only they do to you: you will start doing it to them as the comfort zone of the friendship is to remain as you are instead of to grow.

People play games of being passive aggressive and distant. It is a really a problem for relation.  If you can't communicate, why relate?

Honestly. Someone who just calls you to say hi. How many friends do you have that do that, and how many do you have that call you when they need something.

You help them have a good life. Not necessarily a good day.
