Why Do So Many 13-Year-Old Girls Look 18 Today?

Nothing new here, it happened before as well. When I grew up in the 80's/90's it also happened, then they blamed MTV and Madonna for it.

The same happened in the 50's with Marilyn Monroe in the 00's with Britney Spears.

At least Marilyn and Madonna made a contribution to create positive change, Marilyn with women's rights and Madonna with women's rights and acceptance of the queer community.

Same pattern different details.

Maybe the make-up applications are getting more sophisticated, so it visually closes the gap between 13 and 18.

Maybe it's just you getting older and the age gap between you and a 13 yo is getting bigger.

If you're talking about online specifically it could be filters and AI enhancing going on.

I agree that this isn’t entirely new. The difference is scale and intensity.

A 13-year-old today has access to social media, beauty influencers, filters, editing apps, and makeup tutorials that previous generations never had.

Young girls are hypersexualized, while adult women are infantilized in ways that encourage them to resemble hypersexualized young girls.

Who exactly does this serve?

Pedophiles, of course!

Because girls go through puberty earlier now than in the past, likely because of plastic releasing phthalates in the water supply which when ingested by humans can imitate female hormones.

That can’t be the reason. I come from a country where people drink natural tap water directly and rarely buy bottled water, yet girls there still tend to look older than their actual age.

My country and continent is very natural

Better nutrition?

I was going to say higher IGF-1 due to the increased intake of animal protein as well as total protein intake. Notice you can't necessarily say "better" because chronically-high IGF-1 is causally related to the development of chronic diseases and cancer (see Valter Longo's research). Tall stature is also correlated with weaker cortical bone structure.

I asked Claude and it said:

Body fat (strongest evidence). Higher childhood BMI raises leptin, which activates the hypothalamic GnRH system that triggers puberty. Rising obesity tracks closely with earlier menarche.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Phthalates, BPA, parabens, and some pesticides interfere with estrogen/androgen signaling—evidence strongest in girls, mixed in boys.

Early-life programming. Low birth weight plus rapid catch-up growth, and prenatal chemical exposure, associate with earlier maturation.

Stress. Psychosocial stress and adverse family environments correlate with earlier puberty in girls, likely via HPA-axis effects.

Diet composition. High animal-protein intake in childhood links to earlier onset through IGF-1/insulin signaling.

I personally think that this earlier development and taller statures are not that beneficial for longevity.
