Most people shouldn't own dogs

12 posts in this topic

I only ever met a couple of people I would consider fit to own a dog out of the myriad of dog owners I've met. Most people don't have the time, resources or discipline to properly tend to a dog. I know people who got breeds simply because they look cool but don't fit their lifestyle at all. I know a chronically ill person who owned a sleigh dog. Obviously they couldn't keep up and it ended up so stressed and bored that it started eating glass. But then they had a huge ego over giving it up to a certain someone who was capable of giving that dog a decent life.

The rise of dogs getting medicated is a sign that too many people own dogs that they can't properly take care of. The high demand on dogs incentivizes irresponsible breeding, which leads to bad genes and anti-social dog behavior. Way more shelter dogs should be euthanized, which is clearly an unpopular thing to say, but would realistically be the most responsible thing to do. There are way too many dogs in circulation.

And people are way too fucking obsessed with dogs, to a point of mania. I've had people let their dogs into my home uninvited, then act shocked when I get mad. I've seen people walk their giant illegal looking pitbull monster through a park full of kids with no leash acting like it's normal. The shitstorm people throw over "dog abuse", like that Hasan situation. Shit's childish and irresponsible. It's like dogs have become the personification of Neverland. Dogs being compared to children is manic af too. It's just a fucking dog, my god.

Completely tired of my neighbors dogs always barking. At the very least, dogs do not belong in big urban cities like where I live. Their welfare needs... space, movement, and low stress... do not match cramped apartments and constant noise. This mismatch often leads to barking, anxiety, and behavioral issues that affect entire buildings. Urban life also limits exercise and forces dogs into overstimulating environments they weren’t bred for. All of this creates an ethical question about whether keeping high‑needs animals in such conditions is fair to them or to the people living around them.

Most of the dogs are off leash pitbulls, by far the worst dogs in general - they were literally bred to kill and people treat them like lovable little darlings. They're like 6% of dogs worldwide dog and responsible for 68% of attacks.

In my experience stupid people have stupid dogs. They always share a likeness.

Dogs are amazing but I agre with you.

Mostly people use dogs just to have somebody to cuddle and make them happy but treat them like shit and go out with them just the necessary amount of time for them to release themselves.

And even that depends on the "owner" the Dog itself doesnt have the right to decide when he can release himself.

Even worse with cats, where people dont even let them come out of the building, humans are the worst animals there are

Doing a hike with a dog's company is wholesome. It is the only way I enjoy being around dogs. I can't stand dogs inside a house because it creates problems. From dumb barking, eating your objects, or the dog getting depressed.

People gotta learn how dogs will live their best lives.

On the other hand, humans create playgrounds for children that's only pavement. That's how sick our thinking is.

Indoor dogs is modern phenomena I believe. A dog makes a lot of sense on a farm. Not only as a work animal but also for the dog itself, who love working and it's a stimulating environment.

I think the happiest dogs I've ever met was a small pack of four in an Aboriginal village in Queensland Australia. They would run around, play all day and chase dingos at night.

Of course, those farm dogs are the happiest. They have unlimited energy.

Unfortunately humans have bred and changed dogs evolution through selective breeding & training. Some dogs have been bred to be dependant on humans in a way that means they prefer an unnatural environment (IE indoors). I don't claim this is correct.

We can witness more of this in short-nosed breeds like pugs (constant breathing issues that need thousands in surgery). Dachshunds who's spines break just existing or doing normal dog shit. German shepherds with backs bread for an 'aesthetic' downslope that end up disabled. Bully breeds selectively bred for aggression that we punish for exisiting.

Let's not even get into greyhound racing! Unnaturally fast track turns that break their delicate back hocks. Dogs that literally snap their spines while racing from the sheer power of their legs and speed....

What humans have done to dogs is disgusting.

1. The dog breeding industry is a real, corrupt evil, and people need to stop buying dogs and adopt them instead. There are tons of dogs in shelters, good and healthy dogs, but people still buy dogs for crazy amounts of money just because of their breed.

I used to volunteer in a dog shelter, and the number of dogs there compared to the number of people willing to adopt them is huge.

Many, or most, dogs in these shelters are killed by humans for no reason, only because some selfish people want a pure breed.

2. Dogs are not suited for the city or for the modern lifestyle.

Many of them are alone and bored at home while their humans are working. This is horrible. They need fresh air, space to run, attention, and love.

3. People treat their dogs like children. This is natural because dogs and cats are childlike in some ways. They are vulnerable and fully dependent on humans for survival, like a human child in their early years. As long as they do not abuse the animals or cause them discomfort, I don’t see a problem with it. Dogs and cats are a source of love, and the attachment is often mutual.

4. The phenomenon of people walking their large and potentially dangerous dogs in crowded areas without a leash is not okay because it can be frightening for children, small dogs, or people who have a phobia. I have a phobia of unfamiliar, big, and potentially dangerous dogs, even though I have two dogs myself, so I don’t want to imagine what other children or people with dog phobia may feel.

5. On the other hand, there are people who simply don’t like dogs or even hate them, and they can make life miserable for dog owners and their dogs. Some of them can be very violent, to the extent that they may cause harm or even poison a dog. I understand that barking can be annoying to some people, but for some dogs this is their natural instinct, and they bark more than others even if their needs are met.

My dogs which were adopted and are mixed with a guard breed that barks excessively (the other mixes are unknown), and I have nothing to do with that. I can ask them to stop, and they will, but I can’t completely prevent their random barking when they feel alert, which some people simply don’t understand.

6. Most people shouldn’t have dogs (or animals) for the same reason many of them shouldn’t have kids.

Just because you have these psychic powers and abilities, it doesn't mean you're any less of a human than anyone else. There are people who are fast, people who are book smart and people with strong body odor. Psychic powers are just like that. -Reigen, Mob Psycho 100
