A lot of it has gotta be genetics, how early in life you started using cannabis, and how many psychedelics you've used before really experimenting with the herb. I'm sure someone like Leo who has done plenty of DMT before diving into cannabis completely changes your relationship to it. For someone like me, who started using it heavily at 15 all the way to age 25, it became something very different. Interesting to think about.

It's like my friend said: you become a bit like a grandma.

Yeah lol. I can't use it anymore because of previous psychotic episodes, but it's okay. It was really damaging my life and my ability to live, think, and take action at a high level. Sort of a blessing in disguise in a way.

I suspect the following thing could be part of the explanation for why some people get addicted to weed, while others don't:

My current explanation for why i got addicted to weed and is that I simply was taught to use addictions and coping mechanisms since I was very little.

When my mom was feeling emotional she would eat sweets and she would come and give me some as well, lol. She made me witness her bad mood, and how sweets make it go away.

Also dad was basically an alcoholic.

Every time I was sad or emotional, my mom would freak the fuck out and my dad would get angry. They basically taught me that I have to get rid of difficult emotions, at any cost, through external means.

This made me feel socially anxious and depressed and insecure. I literally  can't remember a time where I didn't feel those things. Even my first memories include the feelings fearing my dad's anger and being addicted to, and later on disgusted and annoyed with my mom's smothering. And me hating to interact with other kids, teachers, other adults, family, etc.

I felt inadequate in any context, with some fleeting exceptions.

So I think this has a whole lot to do with it.

Being so fucked on this front since a very young age, I observed makes it really hard for me to short circuit all that inertia, and to keep a stable baseline of consciousness.

And as a final point here, that's actually one thing that weed ended up helping me see - it was amplifying just how wildly volatile my state was day to day. For so many years, every day I switched from moments of bliss and looking at things and tearing up from the beauty of existence, all the way to feeling extremely heavy and inadequate and wondering if I am retarded or something and if it's actually a good idea to end this life. (Which I know I wouldn't do, but those are the states I have been dealing with)

I'm painfully sensitive to weed, to the point where I simply don't understand how people smoke it and go about their normal lives. When I've been out partying on nights out and somebody offers me some, if I have even a tiny draw I will be completely fucked for the rest of the night. Yet some people seem to smoke an entire joint and have a great time.

It just makes me go completely non-verbal. It's great as a psychedelic taken on my own at home, but the way I see most people use it does not work for me at all.

Weed is a medicine.  Most of us are stuck like chuck in routine monotony due to necessity and because of circumstances beyond our control.  Weed helps many people get through the day and I don't blame them for it.

Edible cannabis, in the right doses, is just as good as any classic psychedelic.

My intuition tells me there is more to plants than simple genetic instructions playing out.

They are sophisticated manufacturers of powerful agents of conscious control.

Different levels of understanding Consciousness. It's one thing to understand everything is consciousness, and another to see everything has consciousness. This is essentially what panpsychism and Rupert Sheldrake's morphic resonance point out.

Hey Leo and everyone else.

This is my first post in this forum.

I consider myself a mystic and have been in the sufi mystical path for nearly 20 years. It wasn't until I started doing psychedelics (mushrooms, 5-meo-Malt) about 3 years ago that I started to truly realize what all the theories meant in an experiential way (ego, Higher Self, timelessness, etc.).

And it wasn't until I tried weed gummies few weeks ago for sleep one night that all of a sudden Infinity started crystallizing for me, then it became more infinite and even more infinite, until I experienced ego death, and "I" became absolute Infinity. It was a breathtakingly beautiful and an incredible moment. Incredible because my finite self never knew what Infinity meant or that Infinity can truly exist. Yet, at the same time, Infinity is an obvious truth. I don't understand how people can NOT understand existential Infinity.

The funny thing is that I awakened on some store-bought gummies that I bought to go to sleep.

I tried it a few more times and it had similar effects. Edible THC is extremely mystical for me.

Reply from the man himself!

I have been listening to your talks on and off for the last few years, and the insights resonate as deeply true with me. You are a very wise person to say the least. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with the world!

Most of what people call “insights” on weed are just amplified thoughts, not necessarily more true. It can feel profound in the moment, but that doesn’t mean it holds up sober. Psychedelics do a similar thing, just stronger
