Fear of losing health

9 posts in this topic

I’m working as a taxi driver right now. I’m 22, but I worry every day and feel like I’m wasting my energy on nothing. It often feels like my health is limited, and that every hard day of work is bringing me closer to the end. It might sound strange, but that’s honestly how it feels.
At the same time, I see people in their 50s who have worked like this their entire lives and still live normal lives. So logically, I know I’m probably wrong — it’s just how I feel:)

Yeah it's what's literally happening, isn't it? 😂 Every passed day brings us closer to death.

But it seems you worry about not having enough time / health to accomplish things you want, isn't it?

I think that's a valid concern to have. But being a taxi driver for some time before you figure out what is some higher passions you have is okay. Do you also work on figuring that out?

@jacknine119 Yeah that doesn't feel right.

My sister had about the same problem, she was over-focused on a possibility of losing her health which actually made her life much worse.

In the end she dug through her traumas and healed some of those. It was related to childhood experiences mostly.

Have you considered that?

Being concerned about health is very valid even at 22. You should work on moving as much as possible if you have a sit down job. Go to the gym, or walk or run when you're not working, even half an hour of movement every day helps your health a lot. But also do the other obvious things: don't smoke, don't eat junk food, don't drink alcohol excessively, get proper sleep.

Saying that, until you're about 40, I wouldn't worry too much about health, being worried all the time is also not good for health.

The fact that you are Aware of these things only shows that change is already occurring. Relax, do what you love, trust, let go, and let be.

For the time being you can exercise more and eat healthier, or even go holiday or camping in nature for a short while, makes a big difference.

Whats normal is not always whats natural and ideal, follow your nature, reality adjusts.

What is your goal with all of this?

I spent years chasing the wrong goals. Did Uber and a sales jobs concurrently at one point, so I know PRECISELY what you're experiencing. The wear and tear of sitting in that same position all day fucks your joints, on top of the mental work you do online, on lunch breaks in your car or at night.

Oh and when I determined the right goal I stopped Ubering, but then spent another year going after it through the wrong lines of work (corporate job + business).

Only after going directly for the goal did I reach it in a record time of 2 months.

I'd say just get clear on what you want and the health problem will clear in addition to the months you might waste doing the wrong thing.

Of course take responsibility for your health.
But in the end worrying about is a loosing game, your body is slowly disintegrating every day and what is going to happen to your body i at large not under you control.
You should spend a day at a nursing home, what happens to the body and mind at 85+ years is horrifying.
Its a fact of life.

But you are using you mind wrong if you ruminate about it.
Are you living healthily right now or working towards being able to afford a healthy lifestyle?
Is your health failing right now?
Why worry about it?

Do your best to live your best live. At 22 you will probably live a long and healthy life as long as you don't get into a car accident, overdose or commit suicide.
If you work hard one day you might transcend your fear of death and have a more free mind.
And even if you don't its fine everything is equal after death.

I may be misunderstanding - isn't this a fear of suffering? And the fearing of the suffering is causing further suffering?

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.
