It depends on why you're claiming it, and especially on what you're actually claiming. It seems to me that nobody deliberately claims falsehood, so that's some sort of feedback. Which is to say, we don't like being wrong, and when we recognize that we might be, we quickly adapt so that we're positioned on the "right" side of things again. But I digress. Vanity is about you, and the truth does not care about you. These are totally different motivations. What you think telling the truth is is different from actually knowing and telling the truth, so this is a gap to bridge for oneself.

The problem is that the more deluded one is, the more that delusion claims truth.

Claiming truth is a big red flag unless you really know what you're doing. Musk does not know what he's doing in this domain.

Musk is great at selfishly pushing business. Musk is terrible at truth and love.

Because people love to say and feeeeeeeeel like they are aligned with the highest values. That’s one of the reasons religion can be appealing to many (among other reasons). Something resembling truth, beauty, love, perfection, or goodness. I must align myself with that. But again, saying you are aligned with something and actually acting upon it are miles apart. Something you learn over and over again through others and through yourself.

You gotta give him the credit for actually pushing humanity forward in majorly beneficial fields though. A philosopher not willing to sacrifice a bit on their values would never had accelerated the electric transition and renewed interest in space travel like he has. He's also heavily involved in AI and has repeatedly spoken about post scarcity and humans not needing to work soon, something he will have heavily contributed to.

He is not profit driven like a lot of capitalists out there. He is mission driven.

Yeah its amazing.  But this is the guy who was preaching simulation theory too.  I am actually scared that AI might be the end of us if we aren't careful....Terminator ends up really happening.  But like you said the solution has been available to saints and sages for thousands of years.  The tech bros just think science will figure it out.

Technology is just efficient solutions distributed at scale. Whatever you think sages and saints has is not distributable at scale. World peace will come through technology I could bet on it, it's definitional. You're right to be scared and concerned but I would be grandly optimistic as well.

It's no accident that the epstein case and the US vs china showdown is happening right as AI is about to takeover the world. The great alignment is coming unless you believe in the great doom for some reason.

Sure but it doesn't make one technology have the same drawbacks as an other. I know you don't like Elon but at least contrast him to someone like Richard Sackler who became a billionaire by exploiting the opioid epidemic in the united states and shilling Oxycotin and lying about its effects and being almost directly responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths. 

Also technology will solve the fundamental limit of our current civilization = scarcity.

An error isnt seen as something bad in Starlink, its reinterpreted as an opportunity to learn. Thats special to this companies philosophy. 

What I mean is that this could explain why he just said Oops sorry, when Grok admired Hitler at the beginning. It is possible that it wasnt racism but just his approach.

 

I think many of his companies advance humankind a lot. We need electric cars for example and Tesla accelerated that transition.

No I disagree with this premise, I think this was the goal of evolution the whole time. If you found your dream girl tomorrow and she was everything you wanted and I came and killed her at the end of the day how on earth would it make that experience more special? I think you will now be able to enjoy your girlfriend forever and also get to live a life beyond economic scarcity with AI post scarcity.

Capitalists benefit from stability and order, chaos is bad for business. Everyone on earth getting UBI and then buying their products and consuming them for all of eternity is good for business. WW3 is bad for business. 

Billionaires want to become immortal. Biological immortality is a good incentive for all parties involved.
