Ignoring thoughts is the best way to become silent

14 posts in this topic

If you fight with your thoughts you've already lost

If you resist them you're entangled

In the same way you ignore a distant street sound

Ignore thoughts

Let them be

You just don't care

If you find yourself lost again in thoughts

Ignore again

If you find thoughts about how the meditation is going or how to improve it. Ignore again

Finally ignore ignoring as well

And rest Awake and Free

God-Realize, this is First Business. Know that unless I live properly, this is not possible.

There is this body, I should know the requirements of my body. This is first duty.  We have obligations towards others, loved ones, family, society, etc. Without material wealth we cannot do these things, for that a professional duty.

There is Mind; mind is tricky. Its higher nature should be nurtured, then Mind becomes Wise, Virtuous and AWAKE. When all Duties are continuously fulfilled, then life becomes steady. In this steady life GOD is available; via 5-MeO-DMT, because The Sun shines through All: Living in Self-Love, Realizing I am Infinity & I am God

Ignoring thoughts might lead you to ignore people, which won't work if you are building a career by being a person with high interpersonal skills.

This works only if you have an isolated lifestyle.

Exactly. Even if you fail 1000000 times, do not despair.

Don't think (ahahaha) that all thoughts are bad. It's about detaching from them and deciding which is worth to follow with action. A "negative" thought "I am XYZ" is one thing, the other is to tell oneself "ok what am I gonna do about it?"

Answer might be in some cases "doing nothing" or "just feel your feelings". But in others cases answer might be "go for sports" or "call a friend".

It's about separation of assumption from assessment and action.

Wisdom is neither accepting nor rejecting thoughts but properly considering them IMO.  Sometimes this means finding the meta structure that the thoughts are revealing that take you beyond suffering toward planning and creative action.

Precisely.

Discernment, not judgement.

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.

I really like your take on this one. Can you please elaborate on this point and give some concrete examples ?

I'm not discounting emotional spiraling and blaming, because those are here too and I still do it.  But often the wise friend of mine will get me out of the emotional quagmire by guiding me to considering a larger system at work which is causing the problem or impasse.  Then, this releases suffering immediately because I realize nobody is at fault, it's a system issue.  Then I can plan accordingly.  It takes it to a level where optimism and calm returns.

The problem with this is that when you say you ignore thoughts, you let them pass, you're establishing a duality between the observer and the thoughts that occur. And the observer takes an action, ignoring the thoughts, which only widens that duality. This can lead to a tense but closed silence.

What you're looking for is openness, not silence. The absence or presence of thoughts isn't related to "awakening," but rather to the opening or closing of your energetic structure.

There is no duality between you and thoughts; thoughts are you in thought form. The observer is precisely the separation that closes off. When the observer merges with thought, thought reveals itself as the living flow of reality. Thought should not be blocked, but rather the separation between thought and thinker should collapse. Then the flow of mind opens, the mind reveals itself as limitless, and thoughts as an expression of the totality

Im such a zen rat. My knee-jerk reaction when you give theory about meditation is to dismiss you right away.

I think I like that :)

Like a cloud you dont ignore it you acknowledge it and see it has nothing to do with how your body will move or any expectation of a certain thing happening. You can think I'm going to the store and find yourself in the shower instead.
