Controversial Opinion: Moby Dick by Hermann Melville

14 posts in this topic

I contest that Moby Dick written by Herman Melville contains more wisdom in it than Leo’s entire channel. Anyone who has read this book, let’s discuss.

Why dont you go discuss it on a Moby Dick forum then? If you want to talk to us, thats not how you do it.

@Sandroew It's okay. No need to pounce on him.

Everyone learns different. Some people learn more from x over y. I have been wanting to learn more from classic literature as well lately.

It's the best book I've ever read.

However, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's superior to Actualized.org.

What I particularly appreciate about Moby-Dick is its exploration of determinism and fate.

Did you read Jed McKenna's books or did you arrive at this through some other means

Tell me, what’s so profound about Moby’s Dick? Give me your best argument.

“Our most valuable resource is not time, but rather it is consciousness itself. Consciousness is the basis for everything, and without it, there could be no time and no resource possible. It is only through consciousness and its cultivation that one’s passions, one’s focus, one’s curiosity, one’s time, and one’s capacity to love can be actualized and lived to the fullest.” - r0ckyreed

I tried reading it in high school but it's just too tedious. I don't have patience for such verbosity.

yeah it’s very verbose which is its crucial downfall.

I would literally fall asleep after reading it for 20 minutes. My eyes could not stay open. Maybe it would work better as an audio book.

I read it when I was 14. I LOVED it.

The chapter where they were slowly suffocating put the fear in me.

I recall that fear when I read Red Dragon by Thomas Harris / Bram Stoker's Dracula (not on par as literary classics, like Moby Dick, mind you). Red Dragon in particular messed me up. I do alright with really dense material ie Bronte Sisters, Tolkien etc.

This is a big claim - you must have taken some big meanings/lessons/truth from the book.

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.
