I disagree.

This is not the USA, this is Australia.

After the 1999 Port Arthur Massacre in Australia (35 dead), the Aussies passed the National Firearms Agreement, which seriously limited private gun ownership in Australia. This included a mandatory buy back scheme.

That evidences that the Aussies are capable of making serious legal changes in the wake of mass shootings. I'd argue the lack of American change in the wake of mass shooting is to do with distinct American cultural & political reasons.

I heard somewhere that the shooters were able to attain these weapons as members of a shooting club (need to check this). If so, I imagine that the Aussie government will pass laws seriously restricting people's ability to get weapons for recreational reasons, i.e. hunting, shooting club. So, I'm confident things will change in Australia.

That's just treating a symptom though. Theres still pressure cookers and trucks...

We should have one news channel, non profit/no commercials, the ppl reading the news do so because they want truth to be given to the public, that is not the case today..everything on the news is drama related, ratings related, advertising dollars related, the ppl running the news channels promote this and the ppl working for the bosses are likeminded...

The samethings are happening in Canada, mass shootings, murders, stabbings everyday, stupidity everywhere, and ppl use it for their own fame and fortune..Sign of the times..

I disagree in part.

I'd argue the cause of mass killings is 'Intention' + 'Access to technology of extreme violence'. Taking away guns takes away one of the necessary causes.

Compare the Southport attack and Sandy Hook attack. In one the attacker had a knife, the other the attacker had a assault gun, one had 3 casaulties and the other 28.

But i agree that taking away guns doesn't affect the intention element.

I'd say the prevalence, but not the cause.

No, they will just use another tool, gun access is not the problem, its a Consciousness problem, low consciousness no feeling of connection and its just about the individual and their beliefs, higher consciousness more connection, no belief involved, no danger to anyone!!

If you take a gun away they will just go stab people. They will stab the children instead. They will go to the daycare and kill all the children. It happens in China cause they dont have guns.

And another Award with a Child that is completely burnt.

Compare the death tolls of those stabbing attacks and shooting attacks. You aren't generally getting double digit death counts from stabbing attacks. If you look up those china stabbings, the death counts is usually between 1 and 6.

Compare that to Uvalde (22 deaths), Sandy Hook (27), Vegas shooting (60), Bataclan (90) etc etc.

Apart from exceptions like the Nice truck attack, you aren't really getting double digits from non-shooting attacks.

@UlaxIf you take their means of mass killing people easily they will go after the babies. Cause you cant mass kill adults with a knife.

Ahh interesting point, I understand your argument now. I hadn't thought of that before but makes sense.

A gun is a much lower barrier to entry for harm than a knife - much more impersonal to shoot someone from afar than walk directly up to them, and stab them (close quarters combat).

Impersonality can scale harm (ie gun) but a knife demands some commitment. If the intent/desire is there 100% nothing will stop a person.

But a gun and a knife are totally different.

It is far easier to trick someone, than to convince them they have been tricked.

The idea that knifes are as powerful as guns for mass killing is an excuse.

If knifes were that powerful, we would have never evolved guns. Militaries and police use guns because they are superior killing tools. Guns outcompeted knives.

Trucks, nerve gas or mustard gas(easily made with readily available material), anthrax(naturally grown), arson while locking doors, poison in the water system,.... guns are more convenient but taking away guns doesn't eliminate the problem, especially for planned attacks like this.

Does it have to be so black and white?

What if taking away guns reduces the barrier to entry? Reduces incidence? Surely that is good.
