Tier 2 debates tier 1, Bryan Johnson on jubilee

45 posts in this topic

It's an interesting study of spiral dynamics to listen to Bryan Johnson debate 20 people most of who are lower on the spiral in my opinion.

Bryan Johnson is a self described systems thinker, and cares about the welfare of all, he also stays calm and didn't get triggered. I believe this makes him a stage yellow thinker while the other debaters are mostly their 1. The one woman who is clearly angry might even be stage red?

@enchanted I had to comment on his first claim, that ending death should be humanity's #1 objective. This guy is clearly a materialist, since in truth there are no death and no human body, it's all imagined by the mind of God.

I am deeply dubious he is Tier 2.

People are right to be skeptical of his weird materialistic obssession with longevity. It sounds like a neurosis fueled by too much money and too little wisdom.

I hate people who are obsessed with longevity. It's obvious they lack existential depth and overcompensating for it.

I would change his shirt to: Shut up and Die.

Counter-intuitive moves :D

Her content is definitely classical stage green, stage red doesnt care about classism and systemic-injustice, although her demeanour might be more stage red :D

@Leo Gura How can he still be this way after taking 5-meo and psychedelics? How would you explain this? Is he too sloppy with his mind? Uninstered in philosophy or true spirituality? What the most probable explanation for his neurosis in your view?

This hardly needs explaining.

Most people who take psychedelics remain clueless.

These are my thoughts exactly. When you have a covert narcissistic ego like I suspect he has, he only hears what he wants to hear. Have you read his trip report on twitter or yt? It's basically his own confirmation bias entirely. No questioning anything whatsoever. He doubles down after taking psychedelics, this is not the attitude of someone willing to learn deeply from such an experience.

Even though he is a covert narcissist I do believe he is playing a good yet narrow role in promoting optimal health. Before he came around I dedicated years of my life to learning health and longevity and it was really cool to see him making the best highest quality publicly available data mainstream and accessible.

I see, so yeah, he just doesnt question stuff deeply and he is insanely biased.

Yeah, its not all bad, he does contribute to reality. But its interesting to try to understand his neurosis even after taking potent chemicals.

@Leo Gura Life ain’t bad, health ain’t bad.

There is some wisdom in his teaching..

Just cuz someone trips doesn’t mean they gotta see life like you do. Doesn’t mean they are clueless.

He has a life purpose? He is living according to his core values? What an idiot.!

They don't care to wake up and they don't care about truth.

You can't get something you don't care about.

Has he done 5 meo? Im pretty sure he just did that one shrooms trip and maybe ketamine treatment. Remember that he used to be a workaholic entrepeneur who was raised in a cultlike mormon sect. Its hard to get to Truth when you have so much baggage from earlier life that you need to work through

It has been discussed elsewhere on the forum, it seems like he has.

I don’t know why I find this thread very inauthentic. I mean, you guys have all done psychedelics. You guys all have egos, all want to live tomorrow, you all have values and unique things that you like even though they don’t matter… honestly,  even Leo I just see hypocrisy here.

You are correct. Bryan is doing amazing work really. Just good and easy to point out the pitfalls of other I guess. We take the good and the bad.

I think viewing Bryans project as just as neurosis amplified is grossly misrepresenting and simplifying. It may sound naive but I have watched a lot of Bryan and his project is an genuinely ambitious philosophical project also Bryan is one of the most non-conformist examples we have of any publicly well known person.

@LoneWonderer I find with some people, Leo included, they will teach something in a video, or in some context hold a value etc... But when someone like Bryan comes along they judge them. It seems odd to me. I know Truth is a big deal. But, if you don't see some level of truth in his teachings (Bryan) then I think that is a flawed perspective. Honestly considering your health, your habits, and making health a top priority seems to me, in this moment a truthful idea.

Is it wrong to push against modern culture of lacking sleep, eating junk food, etc?

I think he may be wrong about AI, but I think he is right about longevity, health, etc. I am down for that. I personally don't think he will achieve his goal of "don't die". I think that is fundamentally flawed. However, I am very interested in longevity and health because I want to enjoy life. It's hard to really enjoy life if you don't have health. I want my years of wisdom when I am older in 20 years, to also be full of health. If I could live 200 years I wonder what I could create.

Do you perceive it as inauthentic because you do not think so harshly of Bryan, but others do not share this opinion?

I ask as in previous threads relating to Bryan, you have always appeared to be defending him. Just a theme I noticed.

My brother has used psychedelics. His experience did not widen his view at all.... :P

Agree. The religious stuff he goes for is what gets me as well. He hosts dinners sort of as a long format enquiry and introduction to his religion he is attempting to grow 'Don't Die'. Those dinners are very odd endeavours (if anyone cares to watch them, a couple are on Youtube).

Does he fear death? That tells you all.
