I agree. Integrity is existential - not moral. You fuck up your experience when you lie. And we always lie when we want something - or want to avoid something. So it's selfish survival shit.

Ralston is great on this:

Ralston is the King on this topic. So confronting.

I would make my claim to integrity being existential using the term 'existential' as relating to and of reality.

Looking at matter, materials, we can see that lack of integrity lowers strength, lifespan and capabilities of a material; concrete without rebar has less material integrity. The atoms of a diamond are aligned - carbon in a diamond lattice, so it is strong with high integrity. As opposed to the atoms in carbon, laying flat and unaligned. Brittle and fragile. Chipped easily, breaks in half with little effort.

So lies do this to us also - our internal is not aligned with our behaviour; so we become brittle, wear easily, cannot hold up to external, daily life stressors. Internal misalignment destroys our integrity. This fucks up experience; anxiety, doubt, worry and low energy enter when we aren't aligned like the carbon atoms in the diamond.

The world outside is inside us - and integrity exististentially is reflected within human experience. This is why I think it is no moral matter, it is existential. And why we can find material integrity examples littered in reality that directly reflect our personal integrity, and how lying effects this.

Just my thoughts and how I arrived at this :)

Love how you put this with the example of real world materials.

I feel like when you lie and manipulate you crack your own internal character and this changes your self concept. To me this is a much more costly thing than a hit of pleasure or a “goody”

I had the opportunity the other day to save some money because the waiter forgot to put my drink on the bill, but I pointed out their mistake and paid that money so I could hold my head high knowing I’m not a scummy fuck.

I also was having a great night out the other night and wanted to surpass my 3 drink rule with myself and instead of breaking the word with myself for some more fun or potential sex I went home.

Just some simple examples but they stack up. Nothing like a clear conscious. It’s also not about perfection , but being a solid trustable character with integrity

Agreed. If you’re pursuing Truth of reality but then living in a deceitful way what’s the point? You haven’t learned shit

That's the difficult work, embodying Truth, not just as a philosophy but as our entire way of living.  There's a powerful book by Peter Ralston on Leo's Booklist that really explains the difference between enlightenment and transformation, you can't miss it. Basically, even when you have an enlightenment or an awakening, that doesn't change your situations or egoic survival habits, changing ourselves is a different matter but when you can understand the confusion between the two, you can use both to to increase consciousness and to embody those insights rather than splitting them both and not aligning our lives with the Truth.

Yo your a cool dude, I seen your videos over the years🔥 stay blessed man

More gems. Yeah it's like our character is baked into the moment by moment decisions we make with ourselves. We can maintain our integrity or break it by lying to ourselves or being self honest.

When you're mindful in the moment before you make a deceitful or non-integral decision, it adds this layer of self-reflective conscience or inner barometer of integrity that makes the allure of such choices less attractive and instead we take a more mature route.

This is my entire spiritual process 😃

All my big realisations and integrations have happened following lots of contemplation. Then going out into reality, at work, engaging in the social domain, washing the dishes even! And looking for where this is true in reality. In my experience.

The concepts are good - pointers.

Then the big 'holy shit' moments are when you see it in your experience.

Then you realise all the masters are speaking in zen riddles - and everything they said you read takes on A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MEANING!

Deal with the issue now, on your terms, in your control. Or the issue will deal with you, in ways you won't appreciate, and cannot control.
