The right has always been crazy. Lol.

Because they never care about truth.

Yeah, but there was always a sense of decorum in mainstream republican politics before trump. Yeah bush was horrible as a president, but honestly Bush feels so much more moderate when comparing with trump and his cabinet.

It's not really a mystery why. It's well understood and to be honest I think we have passed the "trying to be understanding" phase. That was in 2016 when Trump won and everybody was surprised, and books like Hillbilly Elegy came out written but the current Veeptard. The country is going in the direction every academic has said and it's going to likely continue to go in the direction they are saying which is further erosion of government, corruption, wealth inequality, political instability and a lessening of human rights / liberties. We are in a sort of hybrid civil war now. It's a matter of fighting back now.

It's an interesting question whether than decorum was net positive or negative.

There is something good about removing the mask, uglier though it is.

There is a perverse kind of authenticity to the devilry of today's Republicans. The pretense of goodness is gone. It's just bald-faced devilry now.

But the policies of Trump/MAGA are more destructive to the country than even the policies of Reagan/Bush type of Republicans.

The Republicans during presidencies of Eisenhower and Nixon had really good policies for the country some of which moderate if not progressive leaning for the country before the party shifted more and more to the far right.

Objectively it's hard to do more damage that Bush did with Iraq.

But Trump is more corrosive to domestic politics.

@Leo Gura In Australia we just re-elected our centre left Labor government in a historic landslide victory, partially driven by revulsion to MAGA style politics.

Why is America so fucking crazy lol?

Religion has a ton to do with it.

Religion makes people irrational.

I believe it’s incorrect to call Trump a conservative.  He is outside the conventional political system and more of a reactionary.  It’s similar to Hitler, who was not a conservative.  The German aristocracy were the conservatives.  Hitler ran against the conservatives just like Trump did.   Reagan was a conservative and stayed within the political decorum and the constitution.  I agree with the video where the speaker said woke is not green.  It was distorted wokism (also with authoritarian tendencies)  that empowered Trump.  Trump’s expansion of ICE into a federal police is setting up the infrastructure of an authoritarian state.  In American politics, respect for the constitution is part of conservatism/liberalism.  We are headed into new territory.

Right. What’s the point in solving global warming if it’s all part of God’s plan? No need to worry about the world going to hell in a hand basket because the righteous ones will get to spend eternity worshipping God, taking leisurely strolls with their family and friends on streets made of golden cobblestone and joining in the concert hall every night to see if you get lucky enough to be called up on stage to kiss the feet of Jesus. Sounds like a fucking blast.

The Bush administration's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were no doubt unmitigated disasters that cost over 6,000 American lives and trillions of dollars, failed to achieve lasting peace or stability, and left both countries in worse condition than before in many respects. Moreover, Bush ended his presidency with the worst recession since the Great Depression.

However, do you think that all of the things that happened during the administration of Trump's 1st term including how he governed, eroded our democracy, and the historic amount of hard right judges he appointed on the federal level courts, what he's currently doing and more of what he will do during his 2nd term presidency all not worse than what Bush or any other past Republican president ever did?

@Hardkill Trump ripping up USAID and the HIV prevention that Bush himself started alone will probably kill way more people than Iraq

Yeah, I was thinking that too.

I actually didn't realize until recently that Bush was responsible for the PEPFAR program which saved over 25 million lives around the world.

Whilst ignorant, I genuinely don’t think he had the horrific intentions of the current admin.

@Leo Gura I can confirm. I have a friend who is christian. He is a normal dude, but things like all this "pride" stuff everywhere threatens him lol .. so he goes deeper in right .. becomes a fan of trump .. trump further plays on that narrative but also comes with toxic masculinity .. then friend becomes more blatantly racist ..

I think its a few triggers that make people go down this rabbit hole .. its quite sad to see. I'm afraid to even say something to him.

It’s all Christian nationalism. The white Protestant nativist underbelly of America came back to life, and it’s just presenting itself in the worst form. I genuinely do think that the right wing of the US, UK, Australia and Canada genuinely miss having a sense of “Anglo” dominance over the world, and it just so happens that in this day and age the heart of the Anglo empire is in America. Like the British empire, these nationalists want to bring back the racist policies of the past and enact them worldwide. The reason why they tout Israel is because Israel is a colonial client state of the US and UK, keeping an overwatch on all the other middle eastern countries. It’s dominance. Most of these far right guys would love to see trump establish more bases throughout the global south, and do anything to hinder the development of these nations, as it threatens the “anglo American” supremacy over the world. That’s the reason why these same conservatives are genuinely terrified of china, as china’s rapid development directly conflicts with western dominance. In other words, it’s a nostalgia for a time when there was direct imperial dominance over many parts of the world. These guys say they are isolationist, but in reality they cream themselves over the idea of another war.

Allan Lichtman actually recently published his latest book "Conservatism at the Core" which talks about what true American conservatism is and how corrupt it has been for over 100 years.

I haven't gotten his book yet, but I definitely want to buy it and read it eventually.
