LA Protests

312 posts in this topic

Damn, shit is looking wild in LA.

Trump is sending in the national guard

These protests do not look particularly peaceful.

Isn't this the shit the administration has been waiting for to escalate their agenda?

From the lens of authoritarianism, what is happening here?

I don’t understand the protestors, why is there so much compassion for people who entered and reside in the country illegally?

I also don’t fully understand this. I have compassion for the people getting ripped from their homes and livelihoods and I don’t agree with how the administration is going about it, but they are here illegally. Why is that just okay and encouraged? Why not go through the system legally?

Honestly, who wouldn't want people to stop throwing stones at ICE/Law Enforcement?

Yes, it's absolutely ridiculous to support illegal immigration.

Because performative cruelty is the entire point of these raids.

There are ways to remove people who are in this country unlawfully that follow due process and the rule of the law. That's not what these ICE raids are.

Without due process, anyone who the regime doesn't like can be disappeared as an 'illegal' and trafficked to a foreign gulag. This can and has been happening to people who are here legally. And to American citizens. Step out of line and you too could be disappeared to a concentration camp in El Salvador- your American citizenship be damned.

Creating an atmosphere of fear that has a chilling effect on dissent while the regime consolidates power is the real aim here. That and pursuing an openly white supremacist agenda.

Two of the regime's biggest intellectual influences - Curtis Yarvin and Peter Thiel - have been explicitly calling for American democracy to be replaced by a corporate dictatorship.

One of the books that's being traded back and forth by people within the regime like Stephen Miller and JD Vance calls Liberals and Leftists 'unhumans' who need to be liquidated by the state - while praising fascist dictators like  Pinochet and Franco for carrying out this horrific vision. Project 2025 itself and leaked internal memos have openly called for the US military to be turned against the American people - in fact that was an explicit part of Trump's coup strategy in 2020, had he been able to successfully overturn the results of the presidential election.

In sum: never, ever give the Trump regime the benefit of the doubt on anything. Rule of Law is an impediment to this regime's aims. And ICE is the American gestapo.

True. Even early on when they sent planes full of Mexicans to Mexico in hand and feet cuffs. Sheinbaum or whoever said it’s unnecessary cruel and disrespectful, if you are deporting at least give uf some dignity and don’t make a show out of it.

Actually it wasn’t Mexico it was  Guatemala, Honduras, Ecuador, India, Colombia, Panama, Peru, Venezuela

in military planes too.

It shouldn’t take a lot of analysis to conclude that law enforcement wearing masks is an ominous development.   ICE is just ramping up with billions allocated in the new budget.  This heavy handed approach will tear apart communities creating massive resistance, which creates justification for use of emergency powers, and the national guard and the military used against citizens and non citizens equally.  I don’t think this is what people voted for.

Dude the United States was basically built by violent illegal immigrants that were your ancestors.

You stole the land and killed the natives and made them alcoholics, but the immigrants from today are the actual problem. Allright

Solid take on this. I appreciate your insight, and for the record I fully agree about this being an unnecessary and horrible way to enforce legal immigration.

Fuck Trump.

No.

That's just progressive stupidity.

I see. Would you mind explaining what the end goal is then? I'm honestly a bit confused on the subject.

Well it depends who you ask.

Conservatives want the US to be more homogeneously ethnocentric, usually white-Judeo Christian. They also fear that illegal immigrants might be criminals or taking up tax payer dollars. So in their ideal world, they'd deport every illegal immigrant. That's their end goal. They've been violating due process to accomplish this in some instances, like sending people to El-Salvador. They don't really care if what they are doing is "humane" for the immigrants or seemingly even follows the Constitution. They just want them out.

Liberals mostly are okay with illegal immigrants staying. They think it's necessary for the economy and not-feasible / cruel to deport that many people. They also are more open to multi-culturalism, and therefore aren't threatened as much by illegals. They think their criminality is overstated. In their ideal world, they'd speed up the process for illegals that are already in the country to become citizens and work to eliminate global inequality that leads towards illegal immigration. Liberals do deport people as well, but they want it to be humane and follow due-process.

So these two sides are battling it out. That's what you're seeing in LA.

@aurum Thanks, that clears things up quite a bit for me. What wildly different viewpoints the two parties have haha.
