Based on watching the short video, by "hallucination" he means that the textbooks don't represent the reality of cell biology, not that cell biology is a hallucination. He uses the word "hallucination" to say that it's false.

Yes. Either false or such an insane simplification that it barely reflects reality. A reminder of how disconnected our conceptual models are.

Yet I still find biochemistry fascinating. I've been watching lectures on it recently as part of exploring what might become my new life purpose in a few years.

I still struggle with the temptation of going down the scientific rabbit hole sometimes, while intelectually knowing that true complexity can't be fully grasped rationally. Anyway, what would be the alternative, if my passion is related to health and biology?

I say keep at it. It’s what you love and it’s what you do. And you can do psychedelic retreats on your free time and contemplate what the Universe is.

Yes; I guess this was primarily written in the context of human history — the order of a group or civilization.

Generally, any system persisting through time (an established order), needs stabilization mechanisms (feedback loops) that keep in place the structures and behaviors defining it.

The naturalization of a an order's arbitrariness (e.g., traditions interpreted as "the way things should be") is not only one such mechanism but also a very efficient one: it normalizes the patterns and behaviors required to maintain the system, in a way that each piece of the system (e.g., individuals in a society) internalizes it and acts via intrinsic rather than extrinsic forces (I only realized this key distinction after brainstorming with Claude).

Over time, you'd expect orders that survive to be the ones leveraging such (very efficient) mechanism.

Thats why in Old Tribes they had The Tricksters or the Sacred Clows. Was a ancestral technology to break patterns. There is a Podcast Called " The Emerald" on Spotify that deals with this theme. And goes deep into this even in the Politics of America and Trump and that Shaman guy from the Whitehouse. I will find and add here
