It's interesting how when you just lay it out how it is, your confronted with the question if you could respect yourself exploiting people like that. People who have full sex changes rarely report a change in sexual orientation, and they have rewired their biology for the opposite sex with drugs.

I've done a lot of modelling - mainly for photographers in art and avant garde dance / movement circles.

I have always been very good at reading people, vetting photographers and selectively working only with those I trust.

I've done topless modelling only with the photographers I had a good, professional working relationship with. But at the end of the day, it is a man and a woman in an incredibly vulnerable and intimate setting. There is always a somewhat convoluted muse type relationship present - and these can and are often laced with sexual energy. The best working relationships are those that are laced with this sexual friction - but no one ever acts on it. They are the most explosive creatively. Typically, they generate the best work - output is greater and to a higher standard. I have always been confident and clear with boundaries. I was never exploited. I always approached modelling and photography as a co-created process.

A woman not as confident as me. A woman who is more agreeable. More capitulating - she is at great risk of being exploited. I have had girlfriends fall into bad situations where they were groped, exploited and assaulted. Photographers. You have to be supremely confident in your ability to select - and usually younger women do not have the wisdom and knowledge of men to be able to do so. And even instincts can be wrong. People can surprise you.

It is a very sad state of affairs. And most of the time it is 'art' masquerading as a desire to lower the barrier of entry for sex with young, beautiful woman. This usually happens with youth and beauty are the currency and power is informal rather than explicit. Boundaries get blurry.

A woman has to select for artists with a genuine artistic drive. But is is hard to vet this - and it gets murky fast.

It can easily become a sugar daddy relationship. And the models are introduced to rich and powerful men behind the scenes. This is all by design.

Oh yeah, totally - I noted the systematic nature of the post and point you raised. Was definitely only speaking from my own experience with more arty type stuff and photographers specifically. I thought your post was adding another layer of nuanced exploitation over and above my own experience - the sex funnelling.

 There was a case here in Brazil where a photographer did sexual/nudes albums for a low price to woman.

Yeah this was always a worry for me, but the bulk of my modelling was prior to OF. Heaps of negative reels and darkroom prints.

Sadly, the artist I worked with the most passed away. I have a lot of my old works. He committed suicide by drinking a bottle of wine and throwing himself off a cruise liner. Left a note, all his works he had done with dancers and models were distributed back to them in his will. So I received all my negatives in the post after his 'funeral'.

Genuine question: Is getting familier and understanding dark aspects of society a part of this work now? With Leo’s recent blog posts and the recent booklist update, I feel like there is a turn towards this direction, which wasn’t very much the focus in the past. I just wonder what you have to use for search terms to get these results.

It is just a natural consequence of understanding reality, society, and self.

All I do is pursue understanding.
