Life Purpose is Emotionally Challenging

16 posts in this topic

There are days I feel very confident, and days I really doubt myself.

However, I see myself growing as a man in many areas of my life.

I don’t know what the future holds, but I know as I continue to mature, grow and develop skills I can build something.

Agreed. No satisfying growth would be possible if it came too easy or without any hiccups.

How do you folks go about persisting towards actualizing a life purpose?

(I like your word, persist. It’s like the opposite of resist.)

Here are some of the points I’m working on:

  • stick to my values
  • surround myself with those who share similar and compatible values
  • identify those who don’t, and create appropriate boundaries to minimize their influence

  • experience discomfort with compassion and flexibility
  • for example, if I share a piece of music that I really love, but my closest friends aren’t into it, let it be. Don’t try to convince them to change their minds, or even make adjustments to the song just to make it more appealing to them

  • seek personal guidance from those who’re much more experienced, and foster a healthy relationship with them

  • daily practice with an open and mindful state

@Yimpa Nice Those are good things I think.

I am working on putting in the work each day.

What does "emotionally challenging" mean?

Tomorrow you might die. Your "Life purpose" might take years to materialize.

Do you really think is smart to make the process to get there a misery?

@Javfly33 No, but the reality is it’s emotionally challenging because it involves emotional labour.

Overall it’s a joy

@Javfly33 Because it’s emotionally challenging and I wanted a sense of comradeship.

Dark souls is a challenging game but it’s a joy to play.

It’s a joy, to have a positive impact on the world and do the work I do.

But, some days are challenging and scary and cold with emotional challenges, etc

I have everything else I want in life, except a fulfilling career that is successful (yet).

I get a lot of joy (and get into flow often) from my work and I have beautiful visions for the future that sometimes makes me cry due to how beautiful it is.

The work is also the most meaningful job I can possibly do.

I wonder if having no expectations at all will inherently remove the emotional challenge of life purpose.

I mean a lot of us here have seen the infinity, so it just makes sense for a lot of us  here to have no expectations at all no?

Like as a kid I would just do a thing regardless of how difficult or risky it is, without thinking about it being difficult nor risky, and most of the time I would actually end up acheiving the thing. Without the dreaded emotional labor no less.

You're fine. I have free days when I do nothing. I have days where I have breakthroughs. Work influences me. Society influences me. My bad habits influence me. I can act only on a free day and I have to go to a different location to play my instrument. I haven't lost my ability etc., it has gone a bit better acctually. There are times I envy everyone who is living a more traditional life, but I yet I fail to see a reason why and acctually I don't want to live like them. I just need to calm down and continue. Still have to figure a lot of stuff to have a sustainable lifestyle and a good foundation for the future. And then work on my life purpose. You are fine, if you don't want to do anything today, sit and visualize what you wanted prior, write on paper. Remind yourself of your core values. Just sit and relax. You can't fault yourself that you feel bad, so many things are influencing you. You feeling guilty about it leads to suicide. I sometimes envy people who have time to play their instruments more too, but I have what I have. So no reason to feel bad and just relax.

Also, me and people I envy and I am envied by all have this fear of losing the ability to do the things we love. Remember that. Sustainable lifestyle is also very important. Don't kill by yourself overstressing and overworking too.
