Tips for treating acne/breakouts

12 posts in this topic

I’m looking for diet recommendations or some preferably natural treatments or washing routine or something that’s worked for you. Please don’t mention any drugs commonly used for acne as I don’t plan on using them

Keep to a minimum or completely cut out processed sugars, processed foods, and dairy. Those are some of the biggest contributors to acne, not to mention they are just not very nutritious or good for you in the first place.

Next time to go shopping look at the ingredient list of almost every item you buy. If sugar is in the first 3-4 ingredients listed, don't buy it. Get something else.

@Alfonsoo I too had acne breakout couple of years before.

I would suggest you to drink 10 - 15 glasses of water per day (2 glasses per hour) for about 4-5 weeks.

P.S. Cutting oily, spicy, fried and junk foods from your diet helps a lot as well.

Products wise: Try looking at the product range’ the ordinary’ you can inform yourself on which acids and exfoliation to use in what order/how often.

It depends on your skin type but research salicylic acid, glycolic acid and retinol for acne. https://www.google.de/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/margauxlushing/2018/04/25/how-to-combine-acids-and-retinols-in-a-skincare-routine/amp/

‘Kiehls’ is a good skincare brand.  I use the calendular cleanser and toner, followed by a skin serum and a cream from another brand.

drink green smoothies or green juices

drink turmeric and lemon to reduce inflammation in the body.

no processed, fried foods or dairy.
No processed sugar

Don’t touch your face (and if you do wash hands first)
Try and sleep on your back.

use a zinc clay mask once a week for example: https://www.sephora.de/gesichtspflege/trockene-haut/crememaske/out-of-trouble-10-minute-mask-466540.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw88v3BRBFEiwApwLevTQDLWwrMTage7Dfmbs8kKudo47Ok2d_UPl72YGYETLRFMxP1be5QhoC3PgQAvD_BwE

spritz your face with pure organic rose water to calm the skin

@Alfonsoo don’t scrub your skin that will make It worse.  Be very gentle and use lightly pat your face with a towel to dry it - don’t scrub.  When you apply the cream also press on the face lightly.

to summarise:

use a cleanser and toner in the morning and at night. and use a hydrating gel cream
look into retinols and acids for acne care.
eat alkaline foods

don’t pick at and touch your face

drink lots of water

I don't really have a detailed regimen myself. Just wash often with soap/water a couple times a day, and try not to touch your face a lot. Your hands always have a lot of nasty stuff on them and touching your face all the time puts it on and into your skin.

Acne is not an issue of the skin but like@Roy  said it needs to be targeted from the inside. You can use calendula oil, azelaic acid creams, tea tree oil (5%)  or things like that but surface cleaning is just mopping around leaking pool.

Acne is mostly caused by typical western diet of high GI carbs, sweets, chemicals in food and dairy. So opting out for wholegrain alternatives like sweet potatoes, brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat etc is a good idea. Omega 3: Omega 6 balance should be optimised.

Consume lots of fruits and vegetables of different colour, they have compounds that can downregulate the rate that skin cells replicate themselves and also downrate inflammation in individual pimples.

There is also a hormonal component of too much DHEA, Testosterone, and DHT but hormones can also be regulated by consumption of phytoestrogens: Flax, tofu and brassica vegetables and lots of fibre to detoxify these hormones better.

If the lymphatic system is stagnant that could be contributing to get a lot of exercises especially the type that makes you sweat more.

Basically you want to prevent rapid spikes of insulin as that stimulates IGF-1 a growth factor causing increase skin growth rate and often that leads to inflammation on the skin.

You can use the best acne cream in the world if the diet is not spot on, they will keep coming back.

I suffered with terrible acne when I was 14-16 and this is great advice, here's the best advice I've found on top of this-

16oz Celery Juice every morning on an empty stomach- this has helped clear up my final bouts I had on my back and legs by 70-80% so far.

Limit unhealthy fats as well, I would completely recommend following a Medical Medium cleanse, which is essentially high in fruits, veg and CCC's (Clean carbs) & low in overt-fats, check out his books.

Transform your lifestyle- Vitamin D daily, quit porn (and when you have sex replenish with Zinc & Maca), exercise daily, only drink water & herbal teas, and start having cold showers every morning.

Yes, it's a lot, but Acne is a sign of a much deeper internal problem, fix that and the Acne disappears!

#1 advice is don't touch it or pick at it. I had a bad habit of doing this and it made it worse.

For moderate to severe acne, you may need oral medication to remove bacteria. Usually the first choice to treat acne is a tetracycline (minocycline, doxycycline) or a macrolide (erythromycin, azithromycin).

The dairy you mentioned is correct, due to IGF-1, among other factors. The sugar is an assumption (not necessarily by you).

OP: try Nivea Men Moisturizing Face Wash (Maximum Hydration) it actually worked for me and that was almost all I did other than meditation. Also taurine fucked up my skin.
