I'm going to use this thread to ask anyone with the N95 masks to donate them to your local home health agency or hospital.

Many manufacturers and car mechanic/painters have these in surplus. Maybe they don't realize these are needed desperately right now.

My home health company this morning had...none. Then, by luck, we found a man that paints cars in his garage. He donated 20 of the N95 masks to us today, but it's still not enough. We ordered them, but they are all on back order, including gloves.

We have a patient we think is infected (we sent her for testing) and 2 of our nurses might be as well now due to close exposure, because they didn't have the proper equipment. ?

That's my plea for you to donate, if you can or if you know of someone with them, then ask them to donate.

Thank you for this thread @Anna1

Last night at 8pm I heard the sound of gratitude.

#clapforourcarers

Thousands of people came together to clap and give support for the people working for the NHS, doctors, nurses, carers, paramedics and everyone helping those affected.

What I was also aware of was oneness.

In these difficult times we need love.

@Anna1 I don't think a N95 can be microwaved because isn't that a metal band over the nose? Maybe a UV light might work in a bind or do it like Duke.

We aren't using ppe unless someone is symptomatic. We just don't have enough to even wear one all day, each day.

@Anna1 Maybe your local radio stations would run a public service announcement that your work needs some 3M N95 masks.

The 3M CEO said on the news that general public stores should stop selling them as they need to go to healthcare workers first.

I haven't found any locally yet and we have very few known cases so far. I think a bunch are being used up plus maybe some people are hoarding them or buying them to resale and profit.

Think a bunch are being sent to healthcare workers in New York and Washington right now.

So, a couple hours ago the health department called my work and decided to allocate 200 of the N95 masks to us that our administrator went to pick up. ?

We might run out of gloves, but we have some masks now!

poem:

"Lockdown

Yes there is fear.

Yes there is isolation.

Yes there is panic buying.

Yes there is sickness.

Yes there is even death.

But,

They say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise

You can hear the birds again.

They say that after just a few weeks of quiet

The sky is no longer thick with fumes

But blue and grey and clear.

In Venice swans and fish are back in the once filthy canals,

The waters now crystal clear, dolphins dance.

They say that in the streets of Assisi

People are singing to each other

across the empty squares,

keeping their windows open

so that those who are alone

may hear the sounds of family around them.

They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland

Is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound.

Today a young woman I know

is busy spreading flyers with her number

through the neighbourhood

So that the elders may have someone to call on.

Today churches, synagogues, mosques and temples

are preparing to welcome

and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary.

All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting,

All over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way,

All over the world people are waking up to a new reality

To how big we really are,

To how little control we really have,

To what really matters,

To Love.

So we pray and we remember that

Yes there is fear.

But there does not have to be hate.

Yes there is isolation.

But there does not have to be loneliness.

Yes there is panic buying.

But there does not have to be meanness.

Yes there is sickness.

But there does not have to be disease of the soul.

Yes there is even death.

But there can always be a rebirth of love.

Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now.

Today, breathe.

Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic.

The birds are singing again

The sky is clearing,

Spring is coming,

And we are always encompassed by Love.

Open the windows of your soul

And though you may not be able

to touch across the empty square,

Sing."

A prayer for the world

May God help those in need.

Help those who are facing a shortage

Those who have contracted the virus

Give them strength to overcome

And protect them from its effects

Keep everyone safe and protected from the virus

Those who are seeking and looking

May they find what they are looking for

Give hope to those who have none

Give light to the ones who cannot see

Give peace to the ones who are restless

Bring healing to the earth

Give strength and protection to doctors and nurses

Give hope to the debilitated

Let the soul of man awaken

And Discard money, greed and materialism

Let all men and women come together

And seek love, hope, peace and joy within each other

And take away the sufferings of each other

And come to eternal peace and healing

Amen

Yeah, it's pretty bad and New York is getting hit hard. The health department's in each state are getting a certain amount of PPE and dispersing it how they see fit.

My home care agency that does subacute care was first allocated "none" (thanks healthcare dept!!!), then they reconsidered and gave us 200. Sounds like a lot but it's not. We have roughly 15 field staff (nurses and therapist) working every day, all seeing about 6 patients a day. If each of them wore 1 mask with every patient that's 90 masks per day, so the masks would last a little over 2 days. If they wore 1 mask, all day, we would be out of masks in 13 days and the virus isn't suppose to spike in the US for another 2 weeks.

We are only allowed to wear masks with patients that have symptoms. Those odds aren't good for the staff and they know it.

Hopefully, some of the business's the government has instructed to make masks will be able to increase supply significantly.
