Taking Notes on Actualized.org's videos, am I making a mistake?

29 posts in this topic

I watch Leo's videos every single day. I am taking notes on them. I do it like this:

  • Set 1 hour timer. Start the video. Watch the video for full one hour while taking notes.

Thing is, sometimes my notes become too big; sometimes it becomes like a transcript of what Leo said. Because of this, I am pausing a lot, and it extends the whole process. Also, I am unable to review this huge notes, most of the time.

  • Am I making some sort of rookie mistake here which I am unable to see?
  • Should notes be long or short?
  • Also, is it better to just casually watch the video fully and then start taking notes? Or, just start taking notes immediately?

I don't want my questions sound like I want 1-2-3 step formula...Just is this some common pitfall to fall in which I am unaware of?

Use DIY Subtitles and download the transcripts.

Eliminate the use of the word "Should". I make notes which are relevant to me.

Watch the videos on topics you find relevant to you. Hoarding notes won't do shit. You have to integrate it in your life for it to work. Even if you implement a simple video of Leo's like Lifestyle Minimalism fully. The effects would be thousand fold. Don't underestimate what a simple concept can do to your life.

All the best. You can always ping me regarding this, or post on this forum.

  1. Thank you. I don't know about DIY Subtitles. Can you explain that more deeply?
  2. Yes, I consume vudeos to me and try to take nites which are important, but sometimes I feel like, everything Leo says is super important.
  3. I know the topics which Leo talks about are supremely Valuable, so I focus on not underestimating them.
  4. It is really about remembering and memorizing the information, it is that what learning is about?
  5. Leo himself stressed importance of taking notes in his video where he talked about the Big Picture of Self-Actualization.

https://www.diycaptions.com/

Put the URL of any video in there, and select - Grab captions using text. Then you will have the transcript in a new video which you can copy-paste to where ever you keep notes.

I remember Leo saying Learning = Observation = Behavior Change.
Trust me, I remember a lot of stuff, but it doesn't help. To learn is to integrate the concept in your life, and checking for yourself if it works.

Thank you. I did not even know this existed. Life changing. This maybe sounds funny but I am saying this honestly.

But how we can successfully integrate and take action, if we don't really grasp the concept, I thought that's why remembering stuff is important. What's your opinion about this perspective?

I'm a porn addict bro. I struggle with all these things myself. I understand how to learn, but I don't know why to learn, which is why I'm stuck. Even if you understand the concept, it is not enough if you fail to take action. Do consult others regarding this.

Calling yourself a porn addict won't help the situation. Always keep the prime directive of life in mind. Personally, it really helps to remind myself of the prime directive, anytime I am in situation like this. Say to yourself that you are here to increase your quality of consciousness. Say it with strong positive emotion. I think, it will help you.

Your advice was very helpful. I appreciate you.

@Rasheed Don't be obsessed with taking serious notes and memorizing everything that he says line by line. you can take notes but carelessly, because for me, I actually watch them mindfully and try to get the big picture, when ever I've done watching all of them, I could start to re-watch them for taking notes. that's my plan for actualized.org.

coz most of the time, you should zoom out right to the big picture and see the big picture and the thing is that not 100% of the things he say is true so getting the big picture and getting the important points could help you.

That makes sense. Thank you. Just watching videos is cool, but do you not find it harder to take action?

@Rasheed I don't know which type of taking action you're talking about since even changing from inside without even moving one millimeter is taking action for me! but as a mater of fact, subconscious absorbs all of videos if you even don't do anything I mean just watching it, in fact, there should be a big difference between somebody who hasn't watched the videos at all and somebody who has watched half of them and forgot about it as time progressed.

@Rasheed yes, thats pretty much the process of taking notes, it's a struggle. Your method will eventually acomodate, so it can become more easy fluid.

I star like 2 years ago taking notes exactly like you. My method now has change. Now i just watch maybe one hour and take a couple of notes, then watch another hour and repeat. 1 vid per week. You are doing daily, you probably frying yourself... ?

Overkill, bro.

Don't waste your time hoarding knowledge. Rather just listen and start practicing.

Maybe just write down 10 bullet points per video. Only the biggest ideas.

The way i see, it is better to fully grasp and integrate ONE good concept than simple memorize one hundred. True life-changing moments come from deep contemplation, laser-focused in one idea at a time. Sit for 30 minutes and try to articulate and question any idea and your life will change pretty fast because you will truly know why you do X or Z, it isn't just something someone said in a video, even if it is from the most enlightened being, you must come to their conclusions by yourself (assuming that this being is right, of course).

The concept of contemplation for me is how you truly learn something. I means to give yourself all authority, full autonomy since you are deriving all your answers and beliefs from yourself, not others.

I agree with what you think. I focus on reprogramming my subconscious mind with videos too. Therefore, I thought taking notes would 2x my progress...

Honestly speaking, sometimes I feel like fried after doing my daily learning routine, but most of the time no. When I watch and note Leo’s videos, 1 hour daily, times quickly. Also, throughout the day I feel more positive, focused. To me, Law of Association, really matters.

I did not know that taking notes for 1 hour was an overkill. I chose this time because we get like 12 years (6 hours daily) of bad schooling; As a rookie, I had 0 idea about what to do and what not to do...I thought 1 hour of taking notes on your videos was not enough, and I needed to do more. Reason I started doing this is to have strong Daily Learning Habit and conceptual understanding. Also, I thought detailed notes were key, to this...

My daily learning habit as of this moment is: 1 hour of reading (self-help) and 1 hour of taking notes on your videos. Right now, I am focused on intro and foundational videos on “Start Here” page.

If I stop taking very long notes and just write down 10 bullet points, would not it be wise to at least, watch your videos couple times? Or that would be an overkill too?

How do you take notes, when you watch videos and courses? Afterwards, do you take time explicitly to study your notes?

I started installing contemplation habit today, I did exactly like you said, and it is truly very helpful. In my opinion, it’s about utilizing both, books; actualized.org’s videos and contemplating together.
