I got a small glimpse of happiness

12 posts in this topic

I was doing my daily Strong Determination Sitting meditation session of 30 min but i didnt really wanted to do it. I was feeling sleepy and tired, and i felt hip muscles getting tight and lots of itches that made me feel very uncomfortable, which is rare because in my typical session i feel these things but with little intensity, (yes I know i need to raise the time), and i couldt resist more the uncomfort so i gave up. In the instant moment of giving up and surrender i felt like a powerful and intense sensation from my stomach to all my body and it produced a big smile and i started laughing hard and my smile was big as fuck. The laughs and the big smile were about 2 minutes. Maybe thats real and AUTHENTIC happiness.

That's a good start.

The most profound levels of happiness come from ego loss and selflessness.

As do the most profound levels of sadness, empathy and love.

No, don't bastardize spiritual techniques with laziness.

"Leo, can I do mindfulness meditation with labeling while eating a Big Mac and snorting cocaine off a stripper's tits?"

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

Agreed. I once sneezed during mediation and right after the sneeze I shouted "bollocks!" (Because it distracted me) and I laughed so hard to myself... (You had to be there) ?9_9

Oh come on Leo why you gotta introduce dogma like that... Of course you can use mindfulness meditation like that as a matter of fact that is it's exact purpose.Mindfulness in Shinzen young's style is supposed to take meditation into your life however your life might look like at the moment he even has a specific name for what you said not to do. It's called "trigger practice".

It's okay to have your opinion but imho it's dangerous to act like your opinion is fact. If they can make sure that they are doing the technique correctly what exactly is wrong about doing it with things we actually like? As a matter of fact In my experience that is even more effective because the more mindful you are doing a specific thing, the more enjoyable it becomes which encourages you to be even more mindful.

@Aimblack I never said you can't do it. I merely pointed out that by your logic, you can practice mindfulness meditation at a strip club.

There is a reason spiritual teachers like to be hardcore and orthodox. Because otherwise noobs come in and start to corrupt the teachings with their sloppy and egotistical ways.

"Let's do yoga while listening to heavy metal music. What could go wrong?"

"Let's do SDS while masturbating to porn."

"Let's lock each other in a room and beat each other with sticks to help us get enlightened." (This actually happened in Osho's commune.)

Etc.

You can always break the rules. But the rules are there to keep you from kidding yourself. And the ego loves to kid itself in this work. The ego will look for every way possible to defang the techniques.

:/ leo

I actually find it very helpfull staying present while doing stuff like listening professor lecturing in university and feeling my innerbody at the same time. Feels so good. I'm able to focus better that way.

@Leo Gura Yes exactly there are few places in which you can't practice mindfulness meditation and again that is actually the point of mindfulness meditation.

You are kind of over generalizing, there is no one set of rules that all teachers use and while many teachers are hardcore there are some who are not.

My point is that the way you phrase things gives the impression that there isn't a legitimate way to actually work with consciousness while listening to heavy metal music, masturbating with porn, etc.

Yes the ego will always look for a way to defang the techniques but what if I choose techniques that don't cause that much of a resistance in the first place? Sure yoga and heavy metal might not be a good fit. But the SEE-HEAR-FEEL is perfect for that. SDS might not be a good fit while masturbating but trigger practice is.

The ego can also look to practice being spiritual as I means of feeling more special (I.e. Compensent for low self esteem). The ego can do a infinite number of things to delude someone so there really isn't any concrete advice someone can take. Just do whatever the fuck and find your own path to happiness because everyone has there own unique karma to work through. Failure is Instep towards enlightenment after all.
