Push back on Leo: why you should take the bible seriously

34 posts in this topic

The bible wasn't created by the world. The bible created the world. It created Judeo-Christian civilization. That's why it contains infinite wisdom. Conventionally we think of a book containing wisdom as something written by a wise man from his life experience and consciousness. With the bible it's the opposite. The bible created the world. The architecture of Judeo-Christian civilization is contained within the bible. The bible is truer, wiser than the world itself. For it was the
basis for its creation.
The bible wasn't created by the world. The bible created the Judeo-Christian world. That's why each page contains infinite wisdom. The bible shaped the world. The bible is the blueprint for Judeo-Christian civilization.
‎By contemplating the bible you get insights into the fabric of culture.

Traditions are bricks of society.

They are important and valuable and you must think about them seriously.

Post modern culture likes to pretend it has gone beyond the old traditions but you can't go beyond human nature and it is seen in them as well specially in the gender wars.

So the universe was created from a book written by humans which addresses stories and wisdom from a tiny sliver of time. To understand how tiny that sliver of time where the Bible was relevant is, imagine this:

If we want a representative moment for the writing of the Bible, ~500 BCE is quite reasonable.

Now put 100 years against cosmic time

The universe is approximately 13.8 billion years old.

So:

\frac{100}{13,800,000,000}\times100

= 0.0000007246%

So a 100-year period represents about:

0.0000007% of the universe’s history.

Or equivalently, the universe’s current age contains about 138 million separate 100-year intervals.

And there’s an even more intuitive way to see it.

Compress the universe’s entire history into one year

Imagine:

Big Bang = January 1, 12:00:00 AM
Today = December 31, midnight

Then one cosmic-calendar second represents roughly:

13.8\text{ billion years}/31.56\text{ million seconds}
\approx437\text{ years}

That means:

100 years ≈ 0.23 seconds.

@hundreth I'm shocked at how you guys follow Leo, while still seeing the world through a materialist paradigm. You guys don't get the relativity of ontology. A christian lives in a different world than a non christian down to the ontological level. Here's the kick: there is not one correct worldview. Whatever you pay attention to becomes your worldview or view of the world. Because reality is infinite mind the more mind looks into a thing like let's say the bible, the more it derives truth, reality, wisdom, insights... From it!

Be careful. That is not correct.

The ontology of Reality is the same for everyone: Consciousness.

The Christian is deluded and does not know ontology.

Funny how you guys believe in God but don't believe God can magically make a woman give birth without a father.

You either believe in God or materialism make your choice.

If you believe in God then you must also believe rules of the material world cannot limit God because He made them in the first place.

Oh...you're serious? I'm sorry, any book that tells people they can own slaves and as long as they don't die within a day after beating them you don't get punished because they are your property isn't that wise. Stoning a young girl because they think she isn't a virgin if she doesn't bleed on her wedding night when less than 50% of females do their first time isn't wisdom. God punishes a man who commits adultry by killng the child from that affair and having a bunch of wives r*ped by one of his sons. So the kid and the wives are punished but the man? Nothing even though it's the man who 'sinned' and the kid and women didn't do anything. God commands a genocide that kill everything alive including children for a 400 year old grudge. In the new testament, before you cry b-b-but that's the old testament, God strikes down a married couple dead because they didn't give everything they had to the church.

Considering how despicable the judeo-christian civilization has treated indigenous peoples and other cultures around the world for almost 2000 years I'd agree that book influenced them but wisdom isn't the way to characterize it. I understand that book better than you, my friend, it's a book of primarily bronze age myths that borrowed most of it's stories from other cultures around them. Even their god is a hand me down diety from the Cannanites and the reason it's so prominent today is because a regional power at the time decided it was the perfect religion to control it's fraying empire and immediately began a bloodthirsty campaing to wipe out any dissent from the theology they decided was it's canon. Now they run around telling everyone they are born evil, original sin, are evil and will be tortured forever if you don't bow to their beliefs.

Anything that dangerous should be taken seriously but not in the way you are expecting us to.

All holy books have truth in them.

The information is only as good as the person reading it.

Anyone who believes Jesus was born from a virgin mother is a fool.

I don't know.

And the reasoning is because it's not possible?

As if God cannot break his own rules and do some magic if He wants to.

How are you even possible in the first place?

The whole world comes out of nothing.

Everything is magic.

@Atb210201 To make the lie even worse, she was even engaged to Joseph, the carpenter. No coincidence there at all 🤣

I can't, actually. I'm extremely pro magic.

But that ain't magic. That's just human drama BS.

Which is, unironically, magical in itself.

Well, that just shows you have a bias against religion, that's all.

Because you yourself said it's actually possible you just don't like for it to be true about Jesus.
