Only after the invention of the plow and mass agriculture men got significantly more power. They started to accumulate capital. "Cap" = head in romanian language. Head of cattle. 

There was still some division of labor between men and women in pre-agrarian times. But the lines were much blurrier than in agrarian times, when patriarchal transfer of land and resources started to become a thing.

Back then, we were in groups of 20-50 people. And the capacity for specialization was very limited... as specialization is something that unlocks only when there are surpluses of food and a fully settled location, like in agrarian times.

But if you think about it logistically, with so few people, it's going to be important for people to be generalists... where everyone is working together on similar tasks of basic sustenance. That way, there's always the capacity to cover that person's role if they get sick or die, as everything is so hand to mouth.

Like, imagine that it was the case that there's a group of 20 people. And 4 of them are children... 8 are men and 8 are women. 

Then, 5 of the 8 men get killed in an altercation with a warring group. 

In that case, it's going to be important that there are women who know how to pick up the slack and fulfill the roles those men used to fill. So, it makes logical sense to have a set-up where everyone would be familiar with all the roles in the group... and fulfill them often enough.

It's like if you lived your life camping... you'd need to learn all the basic skills, like hunting, making a fire, fixing your tent, foraging, etc.

So in those times, the evidence points to a less rigid division of labor between the sexes... where (in many groups) men were the primary hunters but all often foraged and women were the primary foragers but all often hunted.

That still is an exceptional situation. Normally you just can't have pregnant women running after prey for kilometers. If they didn't have to bear so many pregnancies during their whole adult lives, then I could buy some of that. Only in critical survival situations would you force a woman to do that.

They were still significantly contributing to the calorie intake of the tribe, but not by running after prey I think. They were picking up lots and lots of berries, fruits, roots etc.

@Leo Gura  You can believe that if you want. But AWARENESS does not have an ideology. Help me understand if I'm so wrong about this. I've tried to find an ideology in it, but I can't. But there is a whole ideology built around that.

Leftists in universities are not just being aware, they created an ideological echochamber to push an agenda of equality. It sounds innocent and well-intentioned, and often it is, but it becomes an entire paradigm that projects itself on the world and ends up with absurd conclusions like that weight-loss medicine is genocide of fat people, or that fat people are equally beautiful as fit people.

University leftists hold plenty of foolish and false views thanks to ideology.

Yeah but she will never beat the top male players. She maybe ranks 100th when compared to men. She may beat some pros but not the top, and not consistently enough to be the best man. 
 

There are exceptional women at sports. Though, notice how they usually don’t have kids during that time, live in a nation with wealth directed towards sport, have unique 1 in a billion genes etc. 
 

Though, athletes aren’t good examples of how populations of women survived in ancient pressure cookers. Read about indigenous tribes of the Americas, of Africa. Men were BRUTAL. Women really had to survive with men. Sometimes despite them, on individual basis. Women did not hunt during this time. They did house holding, raised babies, etc. Perhaps some gathering tasks and I’m sure some other things T some points in time. 
 

Men and women are equal, but asymmetrical.
