Is Leo Gura awake or not?

19 posts in this topic

I genuinely curious about your assesment of Leo's spiritual development and attainment.

Is he a super being/human? A successful guy who had some glimpses of the beyond but still ordinary human?

Would you say he is on par with The Buddha, Mahavira, Ramana Maharshi and others?

Please be honest, I think we have enough material and history to talk about Leo's realization and development.

To be truly Awake is to realize that there is no one else here.

Seems he has the human mind ego on daily basis, but more thin, meaning less dense than average human, and then has peak states of non-duality etc during trips.

I share similar thoughts, this seems like a sensible position all things considered :)

Yea, makes sense, then what people define as being awakened/awakening differs, so its part of the ambiguity of the topic, partly why I didnt mention it as I don't know always what is meant by it....

I see.

One of the reasons I bring this topic up is because of Leo's questionable statements and behaviours people witnessed here on the forum and sometimes the language he uses and attitude. So it does bring some incoherence with what I would consider awakened one behaviour and language xD.

Not that I know what is meant by "awakening" either, but yeah I'm curious to hear people's opinions.

I think he's awake, it's only like 6 pm in Vegas right now.

I guess in your view it means that you are always polite and never angry? If enlightenment is the realization that you are the whole universe and not just a sole human, why would that lead to perfect emotional mastery? I think it would certainly be a part of it but it seems like an outer layer of the onion.

What about very calm people who don't really get angry and condescending ever, are they automatically enlightened?

It's worth questioning but I think your argument against Leo is circumstantial at best.

What do you mean by awake? Do you refer to siddhis?

I think many people do not understand the markers for awakening. And expect all conditioning to be dissolved when it is seen. Integration and grounding. These might be markers of enlightenment, but not awakening.

I struggle to even believe in some of our great teachers being enlightened by this definition. They have historically been just so derogatory to women (some of their quoted statements break my heart). We are less than. Awakening cannot transcend incentive structures or biology. Maybe enlightenment could. But what even IS that!

He is currently delusional, and he actually considers himself the “wokest” person ever. The reason he gives for this is that he is God. But when he explains what he means by God,is a solipsistic mind that imagines everything.

However, when you confront him directly and point out that he is claiming to be God, he will deny that this is actually his claim. He will tell you that he is not saying he is God. Instead, he says that you are God that you are the solipsistic mind and that everything exists within your consciousness.

This creates a very strange consequence in his own reasoning. If you are the only conscious being in the universe, as he claims, then he himself is not conscious. In fact, he has explicitly said that he is not conscious and that you are the only conscious entity that exists. That is apparently what he means by solipsism.

So his position seems to be that the person you perceive as “him” is not actually a conscious person at all. Only you are conscious, while everything else   including him exists within your consciousness. I’m not sure whether he has since updated or changed this view, but that was what he explicitly said when describing his version of solipsism.

“God is the Alpha Omega .. the beginning-less  beginning and the endless end .
He is the first without start . He is the last without end . He is the manifest actuality ..nothing covers him . He is the most hidden essence  ..nothing can grasp him .. nothing below him or more subtle than him .The ego is the belief I’m separate from god . Because being god is too good to be true .No matter how dark it gets or difficult it gets ..no matter how long it is going to take .. my destiny is the infinite happiness and infinite joy and love as the best thing ever ..God .  “

-that’s a me .

No, that's not my view.

Never said perfect, but he did questionable behaviours a bunch of times even after his awakenings. If you don't question such things, that's on you.

Not siddhis.

It's difficult to talk about awakening since I am not awakened but for the experiences that I did have it seems ridiculous that someone can still be in ego after let's say what I experienced multiplied by 1000(let's say awakening is that). And not just once, dozens of times since he stuffed himself with 5-meo and the like. I don't know, his wording and attitude seems of, it's something I am sensing. Not saying he didn't experience stuff, he definely did -- that much is felt. But I don't know if his path is complete or fully awakened as the old traditions would say.

It's interesting that you make a distinction between awakening and enlightenment, could you elaborate more on that?

Maybe we could term awakening as "realising ultimate truth" and enlightenment as "embodying" that truth, which would entail significant work accomplished on our individual conditioning. And residing in equanimity.

Overall I am remarkably undecided!

What do you think?

I actually like your view of it. It makes sense for sure. I was gonna write more but realized I don't have direct experience to talk much about it but thanks for the words Natasha!
