Iuno if yous are like this (this is a stretch to ask) but...

i get tired of games, if there isnt like ... something to contrast it, like .... iuno... nevermind, i mean, its more from the perspective of the person playing, but if i feel like im only playing one, single game i feel like the contrast isnt there to challenge that game, and then i find myself sortve like, baffled, But again, Its a stretch to begin w/

I just live in that constantly evolving world or something.

Skyrim is goat definitely, and I think I overlooked morrowind, especially with the remake, maybe I shall get back discovering it more seriously.
I m just a bit sad that the gameplay is a bit whacky and easy to meta outplay constantly. . it's really super exploration-oriented and not very much challenging either ( dark souls seem too much for me weirdly, I don't feel attracted to it, punching a lot of little things is more fun than giant god beasts, but really maybe I shall just play it and see . . )

Skyrim is no 🐐

Skyrim def beats Oblivion. Oblivion was the worst Elder Scrolls.

At least that is something we can agree on.

The best story in a game is unironically Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. If you know you, but you most likely don't.

True coming of age story with deep themes and characters of friendship, trust, betrayal, plot twists, hopelessness, and a deep sense of exploration and the vastness of the world.

Never played that one but I enjoyed Explorers of Darkness.

Majora's Mask I did not play because it was obviously a quick and cheap asset flip, not a proper sequel.

Why does it hurt so visceral when Leo drops his horrific takes? when a random tard on the internet would say this I wouldn't care but reading it from him is just really disturbing.

I think it's because both pieces of art like Majora's Mask and Leo's videos cultivated a deep sense of appreciating beauty and mystery of life, the world and reality for me, and that made me always assume that Leo would just know this or something... Someone not liking Majora's is just missing a fundamental appreciation of mystery and art that goes beyond having different taste.

Majora's is about a deep delve into the (dark) depths of the self - played out in an imaginary world, repeating over and over again... isn't this precisely what the Self is doing? It baffles me how Leo was able to see this in reality but not see it reflected in art pieces like Majora's. The fact that it was quickly developed with some asset recycling only makes it better. It took existing pieces and made art out of it, through sheer depth and creativity.

Stories are not just about written narratives either, but about aesthetics and their connection to themes, like the masks in Majora's... I see them as representations of the Ego, the masks that God wears and how link struggles with them, hiding from his true self, until he retains mastery and becomes his true self, the Fierce Diety.

I just dismissed his take there - it was said from ignorance. If Leo doesn't like story in videogames that's cool.

Ofc it's cool. Leo's art takes are just a running sense of amazement for me in general, which I personally have trouble grokking with, since in my mind and experience, and I think objectively, art and metaphysics are deeply connected. And I often get offended and confused by Leo's takes and it reveals that he looks at the world in a different way, which confuses me because he is probably the person who changed my worldview the most metaphysically and made me appreciate art metaphysically in the first place.

He often hates on amazing art and shares bad movies on his blog for example.

It's not that deep in the end. Leo's videos from the 2016-2022 era are masterpieces of art in themselves that I'll be forever grateful for, even though they completely unraveled me. their beauty and truth in themselves are the worth.

By the way it's beautiful that that metaphysical arc ended with the Poetic Description video. It all culminated into that one. Holy shit that one is Art.

Same for me, really. I find it confusing. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE :D

Also worth it to note - we are doing two very different things when we say "I don't prefer stories in videogames" to ripping on a videogame by claiming it is childish.

The story in Zelda games is so uninteresting to me that I don't even regard them as having stories.

Frankly, I do not like Zelda games because I do not enjoy solving puzzles and the story and characters are all uninteresting and childish.

I never play video games for story, because if I wanted great story, I would read a book or watch a serious film. Even most film stories are poor. Video games are not a good medium for story-telling. There is no video game that I love because its story is so good.

Majora's Mask I did not play because it was obviously a quick and cheap asset flip, not a proper sequel.

I understand why you guys love it, but my tastes are different.

Leo, if you think the story is what happens in the cutscenes and collecting the stones or whatever and beating the final boss then you never played Zelda games right. The real story is told indirectly. Thats japanese style. Again if you are blind to that, you MISS THE UNTOLD STORY.

I have noticed that there are two types of gamers: those who play games for story, and those who don't. I am the second type.

There's a third type, the gooners. Those who don't play for story or gameplay. In fact often in spite of it.
