But in the end, if you come through in the bedroom that is the truest form of masculinity. Should you get that far.  If you come through there..you can almost get away with murder.

@Inliytened1 how are you? How did the weekend go?

I think my ex might be reading the forum so I don't wanna give too much so I don't have to hear her BS. You know, our witches.  She didnt like me calling her the hot witch ex GF.. AT ALL.  Lol.  But suffice it say, and this applies to your previous post about what's a success in going out.  I got a call late Sunday from a hottie who i had set up previously.   Success in the final hour!  That's where you start to earn dividends.

The nature of the shit test is the ungrounding attempt as my quote above highlights. Actually, we can argue that if playfulness is conveyed or perceived, it isn't a shit test. A true shit test is perceived as not playful, and sometimes even harsh criticism.

I've never really experienced this. I've had women tease, banter with or criticise me playfully, but if someone was genuinely harsh or insulting, it was usually because she wasn't interested. Maybe this is because I come from a country where giving people shit is standard part of a conversation, and is a common way to make friends. Everybody rolls with the punches here.

I think "shit tests" are mostly a useful mental model for socially inexperienced guys to navigate the flirty teasing women do without getting defensive. Eventually you take the training wheels off and just read the interaction for what it is.

And with your stricter definition, I'm even less convinced they're a distinct phenomenon. If we exclude playfulness, how do you distinguish a "shit test" from genuine criticism, rudeness or rejection? If you can't, you're potentially teaching guys to interpret "fuck off" as a test they're supposed to pass because actually "'fuck off' is a shit test and really, deep down she actually likes you". Which is a bit rapey, and not something we should be teaching guys.

My approach to dating or chatting to girls has always just been to talk to them like human beings, be playful, be flirty, and politely accept rejection if it happens. I know deep down that if one girl doesn't like me it isn't a reflection on me as a whole and another girl will. This approach has worked well for me so far.

What if this is just fascination + identity + seriousness being inflated into universal importance?

There is a distinction between shit-tests and insults

How do you distinguish between:

  • an insult or rejection
  • flirty teasing
  • a "shit test"

Conceptually I get it: teasing is "I'm playing with you," rejection is "fuck off" and a shit test is supposedly "I'm interested, but I want to see how you react."

But how do you actually identify the third one? The same comment could fit all three depending on what you assume her intention is. People obviously probe each other's confidence and reactions sometimes, but I'm not convinced "shit test" is a useful category if you can't reliably distinguish it from flirty teasing, genuine criticism and rejection.

@Inliytened1 is this the hottie that called you late sunday?

No.  Of course not.  Why would she be pissed if it was her. That's why I don't wanna say too much.  She's still trying to understand spiral dynamics.

No.  This one - Blonde. Her - brunette.

There are easy shit tests to spot and hard ones to spot.

Easy ones are where the negative is implied ("That's an interesting shirt choice") and harder ones are where the negative is explicit "That is a bad shirt choice".

By the way guys..don't try to fit your girl into Spiral Dynamics until after you break up. It may backfire.  But I blame it on the model.

So..this is kinda interfering so i'm gonna talk about it.  So when the blonde came over.  She's spread eagle on my couch. Oh and fuck the hot witch.  So she's spread eagle.  She asks for a blanket and I get it.  So here do we ask what she wants or do we just make the move. Sometimes you have to make the move. I struggle with it like the best of us.
