Wouldn't it be great to have the maturity of a 50 year old but now?

One way to get mature quickly is listen/read  Alain De Botton. This guy's is incredible, has multiple PhDs and a really high IQ, has written 50 books. I understand that having PhDs and high IQ doesn't always mean much but this guy is truly a genius. And as a bonus he kind of looks how Leo will look in a few years too lol

Some 50 year olds aren't wise. In fact, they may be living in quiet desperation. They also have a negative outlook on life.

Some aren't but let hope your 50 year old self is wiser than your 25 year old self. What would your 50 year old self wish it could tell you today?

Idk I think it could also be very lonely.

Asymmetrical development can be a crapshoot in many ways.

Also British voice automatically raises perceived IQ by like 30 pts.

Aren't you lonely now? Maturity will help you get less lonely since immature people are bad at relationships and a many other things too. Maturity is never a problem. And due to unprecedented levels of abundance the modern human is arguably very stunted in maturity. In many ways we don't act in age appropriate ways compared to our predecessors.

Just from watching part of the podcast, it seems like he has a bit of a resigned, depressed outlook on life — not that uncommon among intellectual types who don’t do spirituality. It feels like he’s decided to take the little tidbits of joy he can get from life.

Not sure this is the peak of wisdom/maturity.

There are 20 year olds who act with the wisdom of an old man and 80 year old who are as developed as a child. It's like that quote Leo recently posted:

"What the wise do in the beginning, the fools do in the end"

Unfortunately, most people need to get their asses kicked by life over and over before living Wise. Just get there first. I wouldn't trade my consciousness with any random 50 year old that would be a very silly mistake

So true. Alain De Botton recommends we ask ourselves this question: What would our 50 year old selves want to tell us today?

“The enlightened fool is the one who sees the ego trips of society and can still find joy and laughter in its midst. The fool is often the enlightened one, the one with crazy wisdom, with laughter and jokes as their weapon, they cut through the mundane conformity and bring to light the latent child like bliss bubbling just beneath the surface of all seriousness. The fool possesses a wisdom that is out of reach of the conformist. A playful attitude in touch with enormous amounts of creativity.“

I actually don't think it would be great to have the maturity of a 50 year old while you are young.

My evidence for this is that I spent my high school years trying to be as 'mature' as possible. That was actually the exact word I had stuck in my head as a guiding star. It's what I thought was the ideal mindset. "I should be as mature as possible, not like all of those other school kids who party, drink, and take drugs."

That mindset through my teenage years is largely why I was so lonely and socially stunted in my early twenties, and I'm only just undoing the harm from that now.

Maturity is overrated. Wisdom is a better metric. Life is meant to be fun and a bit chaotic, especially when you are young. And sometimes the wise thing to do is get fucked up and have a good time with friends.

Maybe you are right or maybe this is something an immature fool would say? Who knows! I'm not claiming to be wise or mature. I wonder what your 50 year old self would want to say to your current self.
