Anyone here ever try sarsaparilla?

I tried it recently for the first time on a whim.

Used to be popular when I was growing up in Aus. Never see it anymore. Except maybe in little fish and chips shops. I always thought it was the same thing as root beer.

Interesting.  I always thought this was an US old west version of root beer, but it looks like it has a different history.
