You've been brainwashed about Taiwan

Quote (Jeffrey Sachs) "[...] The US is playing a game. It's a dreadfully dangerous, misguided game. I hope people in Taiwan understand, my god. I said to the Ukrainians: "do you really want to be the Afghanistan of Europe?" And I would say to the Taiwanese: "Do you really want to be the Ukrainians of East Asia?" The answer is absolutely no. [...]".

The tapestry of the evolution of human understanding is present here, as it it everywhere else. I'm no political analyst, but it should be self evident to any non-partisan external observer that there is no underlying fundamental truth to a particular political perspective.

However, in the case of Taiwan, the only reason that it sustains continued existence as a separate political entity from the rest of China is purely due to the political machinations of the west. It is not for the protection of a politicallyl proclaimed democratic ideal, but rather a mechanism to maintain western self-interests.

Just an addendum to explain further:

Chinese and Taiwanese are the same. We can say that they are cousins, or brothers, but what we're saying is that they share the same roots as one another.

All, I'm, saying is that whatever political differences exist between these brothers/cousins/people, could easily have been sorted, if there was not the geopolitical machinations of external entities that seek to maintain their own influences.

I hope that one day that the people of China/Taiwan can sort out their political differences without the undue influences of external vested interests, that would just unneccessarily prolong the suffering of average man on the street in either political division.

Taiwan has a fertility rate in the toilet. China just needs to fix their own fertility rate and wait 50 years then they can walk right in.

I've been to Taiwan.  Some of the best people I have ever met.  Great food.  Great scenery.  It's called the Heart of Asia.  It's western-leaning and they love the US.  There's a Japanese and Chinese influence.  I've been to China too; Taiwan is not really like China.  It's a very unique place.  Very independent.  Has an island culture vibe which is cool.

Too much of US survival is tied up to Taiwan currently. Concession are non-negotiable. The majority of Taiwanese don't want to be part of China either.

It wouldn't be the first time a tankie tried to gaslight people into victimblaming and putting the onus of responsibility for avoiding war on the victim instead of the aggressor.

Violence is correct when facing territorial aggression. It's on the aggressor to not invade sovereign territory.

Only 5-15% of Taiwanese report wanting unification with China, where are you getting the idea that the west is the force keeping Taiwan sovereign?
